Just did early bird sea kayaking this morning and agree with all the positive reviews below. We (my husband and I) kept on telling each other we'd have been very very sorry if we hadn't done this. Great view of akaroa harbour within 5 min into the drive to Pohatu / Flea Bay, followed by beautiful rolling hills and farmland... More

We chose to go on the 4 hour trip including driving around the peninsula and stopping for various photo opportunities and a walk to flea bay. Our guide Kevin was very informative and spoke passionately about the conservation efforts that are undertaken to protect these stunning penguins. We were then given a tour of the work being done and saw... More

We had chosen the kayaking option, but sea being rough, had to shift to the nature tour (day). First off- do not expect to see a lot of penguins- being nocturnal creatures, it's not possible to see many in the day tour. The ones shown are generally the chicks/injured ones under rehabilitation. That said, there's lots to enjoy. Views during... More

My wife and I purchased the Pohatu Package which included a tour of the area around Akaroa, a self guided hike, penguin conservation tour, and one nights stay on the sheep farm. The tour was very informative and interesting. The self guided hike was about 3.5 hours and was awesome. The hike will take you through heavily wooded areas, open... More

Hello there, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us through tripadvisor. We’re very surprised at your comment of saying of our accommodations not having running water because they all do. There was one incident this season when we had a blockage in the pipe of them. As soon as we were informed of the problem... More

We did the self-drive option with a 4WD which reduces the cost to $25 each. The road is very steep and not suitable for an inexperienced driver, especially coming back in the dark. There are a couple of stops en-route to admire the wonderful views and take pictures before arriving at Flea Bay. This is not a penguin parade like... More

Kayaking at Pohatu Penguin was one of the most amazing experiences I have had whilst travelling. Kevin (our tour guide) was very friendly and knowledgable. We got off our cruise ship and it was the only tour that really grabbed our eye. My friend was not too keen as it was a cold wet day. But we had the time... More

We did the evening penguin tour starting out at 19 30 and lasting till 10 30. There were six of us led by Kevin the young Frenchman. He took us in an old mini bus up the caldera edge stopping twice to get out admire and photo the fantastic views of the town and bay below. After 40 mins drive... More

An amazing experience watching these little penguins battling the waves trying to get on shore. We had already seen some of their little ones waiting for them in their nests. Penguins have a really tough life. We went with Ben (Benoit) who was very informative from the minute we set off from Akaroa. He gave us history of the area,... More

Must do, absolutely loved it. You cant pat the pengins but you do get up and close (like 10cm away!) Kids loved the sheep on the farm and were able to see seals in Flee Bay. Guides were amazing and very informative. Beautiful scenic views with plenty of photo opportunities.

We did the evening tour, our guide was Joel if I remember correctly. She was so nice and told as all about the farm, on which she grew up. The scenic drive to the farm (Flea Bay) is wonderful, although we were happy she was driving alongside the cliffs! Before we could see her mother feeding a penguin, we got... More
