We chose this trip because of the reviews which said that the boat was fairly quiet, not overcrowded and the sailing was fun. We were very disappointed to have 22 passengers plus the captain. Ray is absolutely charming, and the boat is beautiful, but the boat was too crowded for fun. Lots of people were standing and as soon as... More

We drove to Akaroa from Christchurch to see the French village and try to catch a cruise to see Dolphins, penguins, and birds. We originally tried to book online with Black Cat and didn't get a respond back. We tried to check in with them when we got there and they said that it was a "cruise ship day" and... More

We sailed today with Captain Ray on the Akaroa Sailing Cruises. Ray is charming and the entire sail entertained us with delightful stories about beautiful Akaroa Bay and surrounds. Ray runs a 1 man operation on a 46 foot, A Class, ocean sailing yacht. We were on the 1:30 cruise on a beautiful sunny day and sailed amidst dolphins and... More

The only sailing cruise offered in Akaroa Harbour. All the others are motor boats of various sizes - very touristy. Captain Ray showed us an excellent time in and around all the nooks and crannies of the port, nothing was too much trouble. The amazing highlight being being the endangered Hector's dolphins breeching the bow wave of the majestic 'Manutara'.

My husband and I had booked a sailing cruise last year in Stockholm, and because of that, had high hopes for this one in Akaroa. This cruise totally met all of our expectations. Captain Ray was the perfect host and despite having very little wind we still had very enjoyable hours on the water. Ray allowed us to steer the... More

If you are an experienced sailor and love wooden boats then you should go on this cruise. If you know nothing about sailing and want to know what all the fuss is about then book one of these cruises. Captain Ray is an exceptionally skilled sailor and handles this large sailboat with consummate skill and seamanship. If you are an... More

I was so privileged to have the experience of sailing on this beautiful boat with Ray - he is a delightful skipper, so entertaining and knowledgeable. Our day out was perfect for sailing and to just glide through the water with the dolphin accompanying us was so special. Penguin were close by too and a multitude of sea-birds were always... More

What a fantastic trip! So much fun! Dolphins, seabirds, penguins and sailing! It doesn't get any better in Akaroa. And best of all Ray's never fail seasick remedy worked like a treat and my wife was able to enjoy a boating excursion without being violently sick! Can't recomend this trip enough!

There is something so soothing about sailing..... no noise, no fumes. The Hector's Dolphins love Manutara for those same reasons!! Ray is an excellent host/guide/skipper, we got to take the helm as well! We had 20+ dolphins with us and Ray let us enjoy every minute of it!! Thanks Ray, great trip 😄

We were planning on doing another cruise with a motor powered boat as recommendedby out camping, but I am so glad they were fully booked as sailing with this capable and friendly skipper was a great experience. 45 degree angle and racing speed with dophin's was all we wanted!
