One of the best things we did on our trip trough the north and south island!! He really takes his time and has great stories to tell about Akaroa and its history! We saw plenty of dolphins, penguins and even some seals. 10/10

What a wonderful 2 1/2 hour cruise my husband & I had in Akaroa! We felt so comfortable with Ray and his sailing vessel. The bay is so glorious with its abundant wildlife.Ray gave us not only a bit of the history of the area, but does his homework when in comes to marine life. The sailboat glides through the... More

As soon as my husband and I got on board (10.30) Ray's sailing boat we felt right at 'sea'. He warmly welcomed each guest before setting us down to explain the security features of the boat. Shortly thereafter we left the Akaroa wharf. Throughout the journey we saw many Hector dolphins, either in pairs or a mother/daughter combination, the salmon... More

My partner and I decided to take a sailing cruise while we were in Akaroa for a short stay. We had heard that Akaroa Sailing Cruises were worth the $75 so we phoned Ray the evening before to see if he had spaces the next morning - "No trouble, just come on down to the wharf 20 mins before we... To be honest we were looking for someone else to take us a cruise to look for dolphins but I'm so glad we found Ray and Akaroa Sailing Cruises. My wife is bothered with a sore back and Ray was so helpful in ensuring she got on board safely and made comfortable with a good view of what was going... More

It was a great first sailing experience and seeing the Dolphins and meeting the small group of people on board who all had a chance to sail the boat - it was great!!!

A great sailing cruise on an old, working sailing vessel in unique Akaroa bay, out into the ocean and back, often watching rare Hector dolphins riding your bow wave and swimming alongside. Captain Roy, owner and operator, gives a great tour, well worth the modest cost. The part of the cruise under sail, is quiet and unique, and is unlike... More

Captain Ray is a character. He runs the boat himself, and utilizes the passengers to do simple tasks like steering the boat. It is fun, plus you go to see Dolphins up close and personal, and in general have a great time for 2 1/2 hours.

Beautiful boat, captain Ray is a good laugh, and saw plenty of hectors dolphins and little blue penguins. The Dolphins love the sailing boat, they rush over to play as soon as they hear it coming. Also slightly cheaper than other cruise options, and generally smaller groups as well, highly recommend

We had a port day in Akaroa during our cruise of NZ, so we signed up for a day sail with Captain Ray. The guy is incredible. He knows so much about the area, shows a ton of energy flying around the boat, and has a good sense of humor. There were probably about 12-14 of of us on the... More
