The Fox II is a beautiful old sailing ketch and its crew were friendly and knowledgeable. Captain Roy knows this area intimately and was able to create three hours of pure magic for us. Using sailing themed music he kept around 3 pods of dolphins glued to our bows for at least 20 minutes. Again using music he brought cathedral... More

Our family, (Mum & Dad, and two teenage boys) went out with Fox II in early January, and had a wonderful experience, Hectors Dolphins playing in the bow waves, seals, penguins, a variety of other marine birds; rugged scenery; historical commentary; and a run under sail on an impeccably maintained boat. Captain Roy and the crew were attentive and great... More

I thoroughly enjoyed this sailing cruise to see the smallest dolphins in the world! Ray, the captain, and his crew were terrific! Ray really knows the history of Akaroa Bay, so it was a learning experience as well. Ray played some cool music, and the Hector dolphins surrounded our boat! It was amazing! We even saw the tiny blue penguin... More

We chose to explore the marine wildlife on Fox II because it seemed to be the best value for money at $75 per person for a 3 hour cruise and were not disappointed. Fox II is a beautiful old sailing boat taking fewer passengers than some of the other boats and we were lucky enough to have the stern of... More

This was an absolutely wonderful experience & better than we could have ever dreamed possible. The captain (Roy) and his helpful crew knew just where to find the promised sightings of wildlife which included the rare hectors dolphin - most had calves wiith them; one as young as two weeks. We were kept informed and entertained by the captain's commentary... More

The most wonderful afternoon: Imagine: the captain turning off the motor, sails up, dolphins swimming alongside, waves lapping at the boat, sun shining and the wonderful music he put on!!

After checking out the Fox II website we knew that this sailing adventure on a fairly small boat was for us. Apparently the boat can take 20-30 passengers, however we were lucky enough to have only 5 of us on board which made for a very intimate and educational experience. Ray is a wonderful fun skipper who starts off the... More

We booked our trip through our hostel. We left a bit late but the rest of the trip was worth the waiting. We spotted seals, penguins, albatrosses and of course hector dolphins. The special Dolphins are for small but adorable to see jump in front of the boat. Skipper Roy had lots of information about surroundings and captain and his... More

Great value for money.Possibly best tour from a cruise ship We have ever done. Definitely best bang for buck! Captain Roy has put together an informative trip with fine attention to detail,(such as a sound track CD for various parts of tour ) My highlight was the soothing Maori version of Enya whilst the Hector dolphins were bowriding. Thanks Roy for... This is a great time. Saw Hector dolphins close up and blue penguins. The sailing was great and the captain very hospitable. I highly recommend this tour.
