My daughter and I had the pleasure of spending her 21st birthday sailing aboard the Fox II, a beautifully restored Ketch. The Captain and his crew were wonderful and the Captain was very knowledgeable about the history of the surrounding area and the aquatic wildlife. The experience is one we will never forget. Many Hector Dolphin's surrounded our boat when... More

There are several ways to sail Akaroa Harbour and see the wildlife but we found this was a much more enjoyable and personnel way to do it. We were swarmed with Hector Dolphins plus visits from Albatross and a couple of Penguins. All that and the pleasure of part of the cruise under sail.

In all, this could have been a great activity. One suggestion for future guests, sit on the left side of the boat (port side) or you'll mostly see the back of heads of the other guests than anything else. The vessel sails up the harbour on the left side out to sea and back on the other side of the... More

Blue, calm harbour & sun shining - perfect day for a boat trip! Welcomed aboard Fox II before heading through the harbour out towards the ocean. Really informative commentary on the history of Akaroa and the Banks Peninsula, as well as the wildlife that we saw - Hectors Dolphins, penguins, shags, seals and the odd sheep! Under motor for much... More

This is on a 1922 sailing ketch which spends the summer and early Autumn in Akaroa. It is a fantastic experience, where you are taken to see the Hector Dolphins, seals and various birds. After motoring along the long harbour, when the open sea is reached, fox II is under sail. Magical. Do not miss this experience.

Great cruise on a nice, small ship with friendly staff. We saw dolphins, seals, penguins and an albatross, so cool! A must do :)

What a trip! There are various options for sailing trips in Akaroa and this one was recommended by a lady in a restaurant and we were so pleased we chose it. We sailed right out into the Southern Ocean and it was magical. We saw Hector's dolphins, fur seals, shags, pengins and terns; we sailed right into Cathedral Cave; we... More

What a fantastic cruise we enjoyed with Roy and his crew! The Hector's dolphins made it a truly memorable trip, there were masses of them playing around the boat, attracted by the soulful music and the beautiful old sailing boat! We saw seals, blue penguins and many varieties of birds too, interspersed with a knowledgeable commentary by the Skipper informing... More

We have never been on board a trip where so much music is played - and to the better! This three hour expedition with its friendly, skilled crew ( the sails are not just for show, although mostly motorised) takes a break from the traditional tourism mold - thank goodness. The commentary is lively, personal, dare I say, refreshingly unpolished,... More

We took this trip on 11/02/2015 and enjoyed it immensely. We saw Hectors Dolphins - heaps of them, blue penguins, fur seals and much more. It was a really relaxing tour and Akaroa is absolutely beautiful. We would recommend this tour to everyone. It was great. John & Gail Laney
