Sail with dolphins in the crater of an extinct volcano on New Zealand’s oldest gaffed rigged ketch, the Fox II. Relax and soak up the sun, sea and hills or take part as one of the crew. See Hector dolphins, New Zealand fur seals, blue and yellow-eyed penguins, albatross and other sea birds. You will be surrounded by giant volcanic sea cliffs, caves and rock formations along the journey. A guaranteed highlight of you trip, that you will remember for the rest of your life.

I really enjoyed this trip. It helped that the weather was amazing so the sea was particularly clear and beautiful, but the commentary was also really interesting and so I'm sure the tour would be great even on a less sunny day. The dolphins seemed to love the boat and followed us whenever we set off again. We even saw... More

1920's reborn sailing ketch, with keen crew who delight in their work, know about the wildlife and geology, and who have learned to welcome Hector dolphins, and small penguins, with quiet, or gentle music, slow at the seals and pups at the base of volcanic cliffs, not accessible otherwise. January 16 2016. The crew were hospitable, gentle, can do people,... More

We had a large group who took either a morning or afternoon tour. The morning tours seemed to run a little longer, in fact the afternoon tour got a late start causing us to not see the cliffs where the penguins and seals are. We were bummed about this but accepted that is the way it is some time. Just... More

I looked at all the Akaroa dolphin cruises before booking Fox II and the main reason I chose them was because the cruise is on a sailboat, unlike all the others on offer. This means not only is your impact on the wildlife less intrusive, but the dolphins actually want to spend time around the boat. We did motor out... More

Going on a cruise on the Fox II is a must do for everybody who enjoys experiences with character! The captain and crew were in it with heart and made a real effort! We saw little Hector Dolphins, little Blue Penguins, Seals and Albatros from close up! Thoroughly enjoyed this sail!! Lisa and Ray

Fantastic experience and value for the money! Captain Roy gives a beautiful 2+ hour cruise and tour of Akaroa Bay, and out into the ocean under sail in this ancient, two masted, old fishing sloop. The rare, small, Hector dolphins rode our bow wave for a long time. A MUST experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed this sailing experience on a fabulous day in Akaroa. We saw so many dolphins close up as well as little blue penguins and seals.

My husband and I had a fabulous trip out on the Fox 11 in Akaroa Harbour. The Fox is the oldest ketch left in NZ and is a lovely boat that sails well and when the engine is turned off it is wonderful to enjoy the peace of the harbour. To attract the Hector Dolphins, Roy the Skipper plays gentle... More

Well I wrote an 800 page review for this and then my computer crashed! In summary - go on the Fox II - you won't regret it. You are closer to the action, its quiet and relaxing, Captain Roy and his crew are very hospitable. It was the highlight of our stay in Akaroa. What are you waiting for? Book... More
