This was the best part of a cruise ship tour we took one day. The farm provided an opportunity to watch both sheep sheering and sheep herding. The sheering was done with such care for the sheep so as not to cause any injury. We were given full explanations of how the wool was sorted based on its quality. The... More

Enchanting, charming, informative and fun. A real look into Rural New Zealand life through the eyes of Murray, Sue and their family at Paua Bay Farm. Not touristy, and we would HIGHLY recommend it. PS, those scones are delicious!

The tour gave an insight into the life of farmers Murray and Sue Johns and their family on their Paua Bay sheep farm on the Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. Our driver who collected us in Akaroa was Bruce, Sue’s father, who provided a most interesting commentary on the way to the farm. The views of the Banks Peninsula were indeed... More

This excursion was exceptional as it gave us a taste of the rural, self-sufficient lifestyle. We were also able to see sheep shearing up close and even cuddled the sheep before it was done. The landscape is so beautiful and we got to watch the dogs herd sheep from the slopes up high to the pens close to where we... More

We booked this tour by mistake whilst on a cruise on Regent Mariner recently. And what a great mistake it was - it was one of the top highlights of our visit to New Zealand. We had done a sheep shearing tour on the North Island before which was quite fun but really touristy so our hopes were not too... More

This cruise excursion was much more than we anticipated. Murray and Sue and their daughter-in-law made us feel like we were part of their community. The history and stories by Murray made this part of the world come alive and the landscape is spectacular. The tour included a great talk by Murray, sheep shearing, dog herding, scones, tea and coffee... More

We were lucky to join this excursion as part of our Princess Cruise to NZ and Oz . The Dogs were fab and the farm is like an English Country Garden . The family running the Farm were very friendly and even the sheep were friendly !

I fondly recall this most spectacular trip to Murray and Sue's sheep farm with most pleasant memories!!! The views, information, sheering, history of the farm and watching those dogs herd the sheep was unforgettable! Sue's gardens and fresh scones were also a highlight! Such hard work to keep a farm going for generations!! Plan to take in this particular site... More

More than just a sheep farm visit. This tour exceeded all expectations and gave a very imformative and personalised account of Murray and Sue life on the farm. The tour included a sheep sheering and sheep dog demonstration, absolutely spectacular views, very welcoming hosts, tea and coffee and yummy scones with jam and cream. You even get to hug a sheep!... This has got to be the most spectacularly beautiful farm on the planet. Perched on the steep hillsides that drop down into the ocean, with sheep, cows and even deer dotting the hillsides every where you look. Unlike most people, we arrived as a family of 7 and not part of the huge cruise ship scene, which allowed us a... More
