We went as a shore excursion with Sea Princess cruises -the bus trip alone with the breath taking views is enticement enough -the hosts are extremely friendly and knowlegeable about the area -the shearing demo which isn't long winded is interesting -then watch as they show you dogs obeying varying instructions -you then set off for morning tea of fresh... What a fantastic "feel good" emotional morning. Hearing the story of the battle to survive and keep the farm going, to watching those amazing dogs do their work with such energy and excitement. A memory we will fondly remember Thank you for sharing a part of your beautiful country with us.

We were one of the lucky ones that actually stayed at Murray & Sue Johns' B&B farmhouse. It is hard to describe such a magic experience. Let's start with the spectacular drive in, we had a small standard vehicle but took it quietly & enjoyed the amazing scenes on the drive from Akaroa. On arrival we were greeted at the... More

If you really want to see what New Zealand is like, this is a terrific tour to take. Murray and the Toothbrush Lady (you'll have to visit to find out why that's Sue's nickname) are very engaging and real. This was the only tour we took on our cruise of New Zealand where we felt like we were really connecting... More

Ship land tour organised through Princess Cruises, very well organised. We were picked up in mini buses at Akaroa Port and driven to Paua Bay Farm where a talk and shearing demonstration was given in the shearing shed followed by a demonstration of sheep management using sheep dogs and morning tea on the verandah of the Farm House. A delightful... More

It was wonderful to hear about the history of the place going back many generations, the challenges of sheep farming today and the other personal anecdotes. The story was compelling and held our interest the entire time. Tea and scones were an added benefit. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Akaroa.

This family owned farm is like heaven on earth! The farm itself is just gorgeous, and the family is so welcoming, opening their lives and home to people from all over the world. Their love of the land, and of the lifestyle that has been in their family for generations, is a wonder to behold. They are warm, welcoming and... More

Couldn't wait until I got back from our trip to New Zealand & the South Pacific so I could write this review. We did back to back cruises for 28 days with a lot of excursions. This was by far the best tour! Murray,Sue & their daughter-in-law provided us with the most amazing overview of what it entailed to run... More

We spent a wonderful morning with Murray, Sue and their family. Murray gave us a informative and entertaining into farming. Farming is such a scientific and at times harsh job to undertake. We learnt so much, the shearing demonstration was fascinating. My husband was just enthralled to observe the dogs working with the sheep, as it was his first experience.... More

If you are looking for a glimpse into the way of life into a real-life sheep farm, this is a super cool experience. It felt very much authentic, not "touristy." The family story - which has had the farm for many generations - is told by Murray, who is upfront about how opening the farm to tourists has generated a... More
