It was wonderful to hear about the history of the place going back many generations, the challenges of sheep farming today and the other personal anecdotes. The story was compelling and held our interest the entire time. Tea and scones were an added benefit. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Akaroa.

This family owned farm is like heaven on earth! The farm itself is just gorgeous, and the family is so welcoming, opening their lives and home to people from all over the world. Their love of the land, and of the lifestyle that has been in their family for generations, is a wonder to behold. They are warm, welcoming and... More

Couldn't wait until I got back from our trip to New Zealand & the South Pacific so I could write this review. We did back to back cruises for 28 days with a lot of excursions. This was by far the best tour! Murray,Sue & their daughter-in-law provided us with the most amazing overview of what it entailed to run... More

We spent a wonderful morning with Murray, Sue and their family. Murray gave us a informative and entertaining into farming. Farming is such a scientific and at times harsh job to undertake. We learnt so much, the shearing demonstration was fascinating. My husband was just enthralled to observe the dogs working with the sheep, as it was his first experience.... More

If you are looking for a glimpse into the way of life into a real-life sheep farm, this is a super cool experience. It felt very much authentic, not "touristy." The family story - which has had the farm for many generations - is told by Murray, who is upfront about how opening the farm to tourists has generated a... More

This was the best part of a cruise ship tour we took one day. The farm provided an opportunity to watch both sheep sheering and sheep herding. The sheering was done with such care for the sheep so as not to cause any injury. We were given full explanations of how the wool was sorted based on its quality. The... More

Enchanting, charming, informative and fun. A real look into Rural New Zealand life through the eyes of Murray, Sue and their family at Paua Bay Farm. Not touristy, and we would HIGHLY recommend it. PS, those scones are delicious!

The tour gave an insight into the life of farmers Murray and Sue Johns and their family on their Paua Bay sheep farm on the Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. Our driver who collected us in Akaroa was Bruce, Sue’s father, who provided a most interesting commentary on the way to the farm. The views of the Banks Peninsula were indeed... More

This excursion was exceptional as it gave us a taste of the rural, self-sufficient lifestyle. We were also able to see sheep shearing up close and even cuddled the sheep before it was done. The landscape is so beautiful and we got to watch the dogs herd sheep from the slopes up high to the pens close to where we... More

We booked this tour by mistake whilst on a cruise on Regent Mariner recently. And what a great mistake it was - it was one of the top highlights of our visit to New Zealand. We had done a sheep shearing tour on the North Island before which was quite fun but really touristy so our hopes were not too... More
