Owner description: Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

This was very interesting, my husband and i did the Doing Time Tour, our Guide Brett was excellent. Do yourself a flavour and do a tour its really worth it, I only wish that we had the time to do the tunnel tour as well.

The guide was a historian and she obviously loved her job. It was a very informative hour. The way the prisoners were treated, with just a tin to use as a toilet, even into the early 1990's! The hanging room was rather gruesome, which finished off the tour nicely. It cost $20 per person plus two hours of parking, a... More

After talking about it for many years, we finally did the Tunnel Tour - what a fantastic experience! The staff were all very friendly and importantly knowledgeable - our guide (Simon) kept us all entertained and had answers to all of our questions. Safety is obviously a priority, but even those with fears of heights and confined spaces very much... More

The guide was very informative and we thought it was good value for money. There was other tours ongoing so it got a bit confusing when we clashed with other groups, but well worth doing the tour

Thiswas a really great attraction. The facility itself is well preserved and the tour is really interesting. The tour guides are friendly, and while our guides jokes were groan worthy, it added to the amusement and interest during the tour. As usual, and this is the norm in Fremantle, expect to pay for parking. If in Fremantle and if you... More

Considering this place stopped being a prison in 1991, it' s pretty eerie knowing that there were inmates there not that long ago. We had a very informative guide. We visited the kitchens, outside exercise areas, the chapel and also saw the various cells in which the inmates were kept Quite a creepy place, but am pleased to have seen... More

I would recommend the night tour for the full-on experience. I had been to the fremantle prison for about 4 to 5 times already and recently I went for the Halloween version. All I can say is that this attraction gives you a sneak peek of the history behind the prison and how life was for the prisoners. Very exciting... More

Our first visit to Fremantle was a day trip from Perth so that did not give us much time other than the shortest tour in Fremantle Goal, Doing Time, and a quick walk in the city centre. We were so impressed we came back the following week for a three day stay. This time I was able to enjoy all... More
