Description: Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...
Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

I have heard so much of the Fremantle Prison tours and finally made it to one - the Torch Light tour. Our tour guide, Amanda was good and kept us well informed and entertained. It is only about 25 years ago that this prison was de commissioned. I recommend this Torch Light tour as it adds some excitement walking in... More

If Alcatraz is the best prison tour in the world, Fremantle might be number two. Certainly interesting, especially given the history of the place. Well worth a few hours. We did the regular tour, but I understand that some of the other tours are quite good as well. They offer family rates, so it's affordable if you've got kids with... More

Spent a fortnight in freo and the prison was on our to-do list. We didn't realise there were different types of tour, but we did the doing time and great escapes tours on different days. Both were fab. Thank you Brett, for your entertaining story telling.

There are 3 tours you can take, one to explain the history of the prison, one to hear about the escape plots and another that takes you into the tunnels. We did the first one and it was informative and enjoyable.

Having had an opportunity to visit several prisons similar to this internationally I can honestly say that this one is a cut above. I've been 4 separate times for different tours and have loved each one respectively. The best of the lot is tunnels tour but the night tour is also a lot of fun. Highly recommend for anyone who's... We did the torchlight tour which was done at night which gave it the added spookiness! Found it really interesting especially thanks to our tour guide Simon who made sure there was never a dull moment! Would recommend.

I am a Fremantle local who has previously taken the torchlight tour with overseas visitors, we really enjoyed it then. I recently took the tour again with my 13 year old granddaughter and her friend. It was very enjoyable, very interesting, great fun for the teenagers. Simon our tour guide was very professional and had a great sense of humour.... More

This was a surprise as I was a reluctant visitor taking folk from out of town. I thoroughly enjoyed an eye opening look in to the past and it is just down the road. Our tour guide was a lovely lady, overloaded with personality and full of knowledge regarding the jail and the life and times of the era. Do... More

Fascinating tour of formers prison. The cell and particularly the exercise yards which had no protection from the elements were particularly shocking. Excellent tour guides.
