With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour. « less

My hubby and I took our kids (10 yo, 4yo and infant in a pram) on the doing time tour. The 10 yo in particular was fascinated. Our guide was very knowledgable and took us through the whole process - what happened when you were brought in as a prisoner, the cells, the kitchens, the exercise yards, the church, the... More

This was really interesting, we had a fantastic tour guide (Bruce I think), he knew everything there is to know. There are so many areas to the prison and so much history, a must for any history buff or someone who wants to learn something new. More

We did the "Doing Time" tour. The guide was excellent and took you through the whole experience from arrival of an inmate through life inside and finally execution. You very much experience the "feel" of what it would have been like to have been an inmate and you leave wondering how tough this would have been for those who were... More

We did both the Doing Time and Great Escape tours. You can only see the prison by tour which actually made the experience all that much better. The prison is pretty much as it was in 1991. It is very atmospheric and a great chance to take some great pictures. I am not sure the attraction would be 100% for... More

The Fremantle Prison is a is a glimpse into horrific conditions and prisoner treatment. The tour is best for adults only as it is a fair amount of walking and stories and conditions not good for young kids. We went on the standard above ground tour as we had only limited time. More

While there are many gaols around the world offering an insight into the horrific conditions of 19th century cells and prisoner treatment, getting access to the Fremantle tunnels provided a richer understanding of both prison life and colonial times. Based only 10 minutes stroll from the train and adjascent to the centre of town, the prison is very accessible. There... More

Our tour of Freemantle Prison was a fantastic experience we had the most wonderful tour guide (Moira) who knew everything there was to know about the history of the Prison, it was honestly worth the entrance fee and you left feeling like you had "Done Time": If you are visiting Freemantle and have a spare hour and a half I...
