With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. A great tour of the old gaol including facts and figures but also details of daily prison life. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

That was brilliant. Be aware, you do need to be "sort of" fit.... Not to running marathon fitness, but to descent a 20 metre ladder even with the safety harness on was hard work, and I did end up with blisters, sore arms and tummy muscles the next day. It was a great experience, well worth the money and time.

We did the "doing Time" tour. Found the guide very informative and the tour covered an extensive area of the prison. Amazing to see the conditions experienced here in the recent past. I would recommend this for others visiting Fremantle.

We did the Doing Time Tour of the Prison which was in use from the 1850's until its closure in 1991. The tour guide was entertaining and gave us lots of information on life in the prison over the years. The tour took about 1hr and 15 mins. It made you realize what a terrible place it had been over... More

I liked the history of this place which was used up until about 1989... which is a bit gobsmacking I think. The guide was great without being overwordy or smarty pants... I'd like to go again. Very atmospheric. I loved my day here.

I did the Great Escapes and Doing Time tours, some of the information overlapped a little but on the whole both were a great experience. Intersting to find out so much about the history of the prison and look in some of the rooms, discovering what the day to day life would have been like. The Great escapes involved a... More

We did the 5pm Doing Time tour with guide Ben, who had learnt his history well and presented it well. He worked well with the small group. Took time to tell the stories and show the history of the buildings. Plus he allowed time for us to take photos. Good interaction among group and guide. If you have 1 or... More

I visited Fremantle Prison as one of our first activities visiting family in WA. The Doing Time tour of the prison was interesting, with stories of the conditions and inmates. We then booked in for the Tunnel Tour - this is a couple of hours spent underground in the old water tunnels. I admit that I was a little nervous... More
