Description: Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...
Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

One of my most enjoyable days out in Australia! Our guide Brett really created mood from the start of the tour. Very interesting throughout. I would return to do the boat trip in the future. Highly recommended.

We did two of the tours offered; one that focused on the history of the prison itself, and one that focused on the escapes that occurred here over the years. The guides were knowledgeable and entertaining, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

Had done the tour about 15 years ago, but still enjoyed this. Extremely interesting tour suitable for all ages including littlies who get included. Fascinating to hear about such recent history and highly recommended. Also heard the tunnels tour was worth it.

We really enjoyed our tour to Freemantle prison. It is well run, informative and easy to imagine yourself behind cell doors. A good link from Freemantles convict past to the present. Well worth a visit - as strange as that sounds.

Excellent tour of the prison. It would have been a very scary and hard place during its life. The guide had a very good knowledge of the history of the prison and its workings and coveyed the knowledge well.

Was fun to see it all and its huge. They need to create more of a fear factor though and it would be massive. Sounds...lights..scare tactics..dummies...smoke..its amazing to see it all in good condition and you can really picture it.. get 10 "criminals" to sit chatting in the yard in prison clothes...a guard watching them..a guard in each tower. .gun... Had a few day in Perth so went down to Fremantle for a look around. The old prison was fascinating, great history, excellent guides. We'll worth a couple of hours.
