Description: Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...
Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

Pretty cool to get some history of the early convicts that built the prison and the crimes they were convicted of. Try and find your family name of the list of prisoners!

We went and did the night time tour of freemantle prision. Tour lasted about an hour. Guide had plenty of stories and facts about the prison and really opens your eyes to the hours some of the convicts went through. We arrived without booking, and had to wait about an hour or so for the next tour.

Do the underground tour, very spooky! A tour through the old water tunnels below the prison, down ladders & paddling in little boats through water ways, very cool.

We visited the prison June 2014 and availed of the Doing Time and the Great Escape tours. We booked the 10AM slot of the Doing Time tour but arrived a few minutes late...glad that they allowed us to join the 10:30AM instead. We enjoyed the Doing Time tour more than the Great Escape tour (and in hindsight should have done... More

There a number of guided walks that can be undertaken. We chose the 1.5 hour tour. Our guide was very good with a combination of fact and humour. The weather was inclement which gave us the feeling of the bleakness for those who'd served time there. There is also a lovely Coffee Shop on site. All the staff were happy... More

Chalk/ cheese or Marmite experience. We had two hours to spare and so did not see it all. Jimmy Fisger tour of prison - an ex Scot with strong Bilky Connolly Glasgow docker accent and strong opinion took us round. He gave us the experience of bring prisoners- including shouting at you, belittling you, making fun and pointing out the... More

Unique experience. The guide was so knowledgable and presented very well. I'm a local, yet learned and saw so much more than I had expected. Don't be scared by the climb in and out or the tunnels down below. The safety and well-being of everyone in the group was the chief concern of the guide and his assistants. If you... More
