In fact go there first before visiting the romantic town of Tavira on foot, it really brings the town to life and amazing that the technique was first discovered by Leonardo all those years ago. I loved it so did Grandma and the kids so a good all round family attraction.

A treat to be shown the camera obscura by the man who designed and organized it ! Right next to the pousada.

Is camera obscura is mentioned in the travel books, and it is well worth doing. We visited in January and were the only people there. The person who took us up the tower was very knowledgable about Tavira and the camera obscura views were great.

I mean hey, it did everything that it promised. We got a tour of the city, without having to pay through the roof. Whilst it is a clever system, and fascinating to see a live city. It is hard not to see this as watching a television screen of the city. The guide was enthusiastic, informative and entertaining. And following... More

This was such a good little attraction and the lady that operated it was very knowledgeable of the whole area.Great to see the whole of the town going about its business from this little room of the Camera Obscura....we even saw the hotel where we were staying. Everything is in real time, so you can see the cars, people and... More

Attracted by the advert, we found the experience interesting, but the sole employee had to man the ticket office and do the presentation. We felt she could have spent a bit more time showing a bit more of Tavira, what she did tell us was fascinating.

We found this by chance, and decided to take risk, since we had heard nothing about it. We thought it was a bit too expensive for what it was, the employee there was very rude, and there wasn't much to see.

We stumbled across the Water Tower whilst bumbling around the old buildings and fort in Tavira. The Obsura is sited within an old water tower, and it was the advert outside that drew us in. We were met by a charming young lady, and we paid the €3.5 per adult. The four of us were whisked in the lift by... More

This is well worth a visit and only 3E. As well as seeing the town from an unusual perspective, the guide will tell you about the historic buildings and has plenty of anecdotes. Also worth visiting the pousada across the square to see the Roman excavations (free).

Thought it would be interesting to see Tavira from on high, but with the Camera Obscura it was very dizzying as it was not very clear and a lot of the time you were looking at the view upside down unless you kept walking round it and pushing your way in through people to lean over to view it. There... More
