We came to Levoca to see the amazing city, however we found some of the churches closed during the day and St. Jacob's charging for entrance. Church's aren't supposed to profit of tourists, there places of spiritual importance. We wanted to take a few pictures and that is also banned. I'm happy to check out a church though to pay... More

We came here through the open door and found inhospital people (nuns) inside who told us to leave. They don't realise the Catholic church is guided by a pope who welcomes all. Opening hours are far from the common ones, texts at the door menace visitors with fines for whoever takes pictures and all semms focused on earning money, not... More

The primary purpose of my visit to Levoca was this church and its world-famous altar, although then I was more fascinated by the former Townhall. The church was being under reconstruction, so from the outside nothing much to see. Visitors are allowed to enter only at certain times, photography is not allowed. The altar itself is really unusual and stunning,... More

Wonderful site that has been reconstructed extensively. The wooden carvings are truly stunning and it's a thing you have to see while in Levoca. The only problem is the system in which the tours of the church are arranged. There are certain times of entry in which they let you in and then let you out after some time. No... More

Amazing church and we would love more time to look. We were part of a party of 8 persons. My daughter and I were given an English card to follow. It was very rushed and I will recommend that they provide headphone guides as most people including myself will be happy to pay a small addition to the entrance fee.... More

This is a church you must go and admire its world's highest wooden alter, built by Master Paul of Levoca, the most reputable of his kind in Slovakia. The entry is only possible with a guide, so be aware about the opening hours and be there on time once you have purchased a ticket. Taking pictures inside the church is... More

Not just 18,6 m Gothic "World Guiness" of altars occupied by figures of Madonna, St Jacob an St John, but also worth seeing outside.
