If you're into castles, this one, you must see :) Be prepared for a fortress, rather than gold & ornaments. More

We arrived at the castle and parked, as advised on their website, in Hodkovce - excerpt from website "NOTE: You can park your car at a parking place that is only about 10 minutes far from the castle gate (access from the village Hodkovce). From Spišské Podhradie it will take you about 1 hour to get to the castle on... More

The place seems like a deserted ruin until you hike up to it from the parking lot. Inside is the ticket office and a small snack bar with decent coffee and "American hot doggeys" (try one). Like the title says, the view makes it well worth the climb to the top! More

Take a beautiful day to go, you will be surrounded with green grass and blue sky.. The place is huge, well maintained, there is also small museum where you can see how people lived in this castle back in the days - model of castle kitchen, torture chamber and so on. The view from the tower is just great, you... More

Spiz Castle is an amazing castle perched upon a hill. This UNESCO site has a museum within its walls that hold findings from the site. Walking Shoes and camera are a must. There is a cafe at the entrance with great ice cream. The car park is at the foot of the hill. One can walk from the local area.... More

We took the bus from Levoca to Spissky Nova for 1 euro per person in January. There was snow on the ground but it was a very clear, sunny day! We hiked up the grassy hill in the front of the castle rather than walking up the road as the large gates were closed for that time of year. Unfortunately... More

Having gone to Ireland the year before, and living in Austria, we've seen our fair share of castles. But Spissky Hrad is possibly the best of the bunch. First, there is nothing around it so you can appreciate it from all sides. Second, it is enormous. We spent between 2-3 hours and loved every second. Third, it is very photogenic.... More

This is a enormous castle... First you left your car at the car park. Then a serious walk to the top, a little bit tiring, but worthwhile. You have great vieuws out of the castle. There is also a little museum. You can go all around the castle. Very nice to do with little children, they will believe they are... More

Spis Castle is probably the biggest castle in Central Europe / Europe as a whole. It's monumental. The picture in the tripadvisor didn't represent the castle but a church in the nearby city of Levoca. The city is famous for it's Master from Levoca, a More

My guess is that most tourists don't discover the magnificence of this area of Slovakia. The beautiful Tatras Mountains, the walled city of Levoca, and this castle, one of the largest castles in Europe. But I guarantee that if you make the trip to this area, you will not be disappointed. The castle itself if simply huge. It's beautiful, no... More
