Trakai castle is a gorgeous castle like the ones you may imagine in any children tales. The external part of the castle is quite impressive and photogenic. The interior is quite sober, but it hosts an interesting exhibition which complements the architectonical visit.

Regular buses run from the bus station (just near the railway) to Trakai - so don't miss an opportunity to visit this wonderful town. The castle itself is 20 minutes of walk from the station, on your way you may find plenty of cafes to eat and drink a cup of coffee and enjoy the sight seeings. The castle is... More

There's a lot to do here. In the warmer months, there are medieval activities open within the castle as well as paddle boats and sail boats for rent. In the colder months, the lake is frozen, and you can walk from island to island if you're wanting a peaceful stroll. The market along the lake is open year-round, and if... More

This castle-museum shows us the history of medieval Grand Dutchy of Lithuania. For me as a person from Belarus (which was a part of the Dutchy) it was very interesting to visit this site. It has several expositions in many rooms which show the everyday life of people of Medieval. Well, it's good, but the summer before I visited the... More

On a very brisk December day,I visited Trakai and its magnificent island castle.I learned about the life and accomplishments of Vytautas the Great who conquered the Teutonic knights in the 15th Century with the help of the Tartars and Karaites. The rooms in this castle museum complex emphasized the military history of Lithuania in the Renaissance and Baroque Periods.Plenty of weapons... I went there two times. I suggest to go there from June to August. This season is marvellous to sit outside. You can drink and eat something to see Trakai Castle. Trace Castle is nice to see but as a museum not interesting. Outside of castle is sea so this is island and you can walk to reach. I want... More

We had a lovely day travelling to Trakai from Vilnius. We travelled by bus witch was very straight forward. We got the bus at the main station at 8.55 in the morning and it cost only €1.80. It is 25km from Vilnius is Trakai, and you can travel by train or bus. Bus goes more often and takes about 30... More
