Place is away from Vilnius and a full day affair. If you are just two of you, I suggest tie up with a touring company. We were four of us so we hired a cab to take us there. This gave us freedom of time. Castle is middle of a lake. Lake is beautiful. Castle is beautiful. Not much to... More

Trakai and the Medieval Castle has been the best visit during my short trip to Lithuania. From Vilnius bus station, a short and inexpensive ride provides the best alternative for budget travelers. The scenery is gorgeous, pine tree forest and an excelent road. Once there (last stop), I recommend to take a taxi to the castle and enjoy the Museum... More

Trakai is a beautiful little town, and is a required visit if you have any interest at all in seeing some of the history of this wonderful country. It is a nice town to walk through, and there are a number of small cafes in the area where you can enjoy decent Lithuanian food and drink at not-unreasonable prices. The... More

great day out for family or couples alike. We took the English tour too, which was worth it as it gives you an insight about the history and makings of the castle. Very picturesque and some good restaurants nearby.

If you have been to other European castles before, you won't be impressed. Much of the castle was destroyed and what we see know is rather modern. Maybe you'd better enjoy the view of the castle from the lake-side cafe.

We went here on a day trip from Vilnius . Its a really beautiful place and well worth the visit. Quite a walk from the bus station to the castle a shuttle bus would be a good idea. We went on a boat trip around the castle cost 10 euro each for an hour just lovely. There are also yachts... More

The castle is breath-taking. It is in the middle of a lake and the access to the castle and its surroundings is free. Take the bus at Vilnius bus station, it leaves every 20 minutes and you will get off at the Trakai bus station in 25 minutes. It is not near the castle. I was lucky that a van... More

The size of the castle is impressive, as well as the upper floors and the museum condition of it. Great place to take spectacular pictures

Came here from Vilnius. Took one of the convenient buses from the Vilnius Bus Terminal (1.7 euros one way). Buses leave pretty frequently - every 20 minutes or so. You can buy tickets in the bus terminal ticket office or directly from the driver. He will even give out change. The bus trip took about 30 minutes. When you get... More

I'm a bit torn on this one. First off, the castle is pretty, in a very beautiful environment. However, the renovation isn't done too well and the "new" parts don't mess up with the original. A friend of mine mentioned it's almost impossible to enjoy during the high season because of the crowds, so beware. I was there in late... More
