A medieval castle in excellent condition. The nature around it and the surounding lake make it a unique castle. A must due to its proximity to Vilnius (30 mins by car) and you dont have to go in if you have no time. Plenty of shops around to buy souvenirs and food, though pricy. Avoid the toilets if you can!

No need to go inside, it's beautiful to walk around on a summer's evening. Lots of stalls near selling good souvenirs and foods.

A trip to the castle is a must and an easy day trip from Vilnius. The restored 15th century style stone castle houses many artifacts and displays many exhibitions. The entry fee was 18 litas and was good value as you could easily spend an hour or two here as there is quite alot to see in the castle. There... More

THis castle is 20 or so kilometers away from Vilnius. Do not know how easy is to be accessed by public transport but if you are with a car - do not miss it. We enjoyed the castle quite a lot. It is a very picturesque area, on an island in a lake. Really great work done to restore it... More

Good short trip from Vilnius for cheering up. We used rental car. Road is exsellent. Very pleasent, beautiful and calming place. The round-walking took half an hour. Don't hesitate and try Kibinai (karaim specialities with meat or cheese).

When we first laid eyes on this 14th century castle we where charmed , was this for real? I began taking non stop photos as we walked over the long bridge to the island were the castle grounds stood. A moat separates the outer courtyard from the main tower . It is very exciting to visit all the luxuriant rooms... More

Paid an additional optional charge to come to Trakai Castle and was not disappointed. So picturesque; we took a group photo here with the castle in the background that is one of our treasured photos of our Baltic States tour. The English-speaking castle guide was excellent. She gave clear explanations of the when, why and what for everything in the... More
