Gauja river winds through park in all directions. There are two castle ruins in Siguilda and Turaida and would be good for trekking.

Gauja National Park in Sigulda (1h from Riga by car) offers a wide variety of entertaining visits. I especially advice the following (1 full day, ~18/20km): + Start asking information on the trails/routes at the information center Do not miss the Laima clock in front of the train station + Visit the area around the New Sigulda Castle (the mansion... After reading the awesome description on the Lonely Planet and all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to have a day trip to the Gauja National Park from Riga. Really we didn't understand what it's beautiful about this place! We started having the three castles walk. The walk is not good at all, especially the last part to... More

This is a well kept national park. We spent a whole day walking in it and our experience was extremely positive. There are very good and well kept paths with very sturdy stairs where there is an incline.

There are paths everywhere and very variable signposting- buy the map from Sigulda station tourist office to help you. Also LOTS of wooden steps on the routes along the Gauda valley. It is easy to walk to Gutmanns cave but thereafter the path to Tuarida Castle is closed for repair and you end up on quite a busy road.

There are lots of walking trails through the park. If you have the time and patience, get a good map from the information center I sigulda (80 cents) and then walk through the park off the beaten tracks. You see lots of unmarked pathways but easy to follow. Very green in the summer and lovely to meander around.

Gauja National Park is a protected natural area. One of my famous places to spend peaceful holidays close to typical Latvian nature near river Gauja. I recommend you to take a tent and rent a boat from Cesis to Sigulda for 2 days. This would be the best way to explore Latvian nature.

We enjoyed a day trip from Riga to Sigulda to do a nice walk through the national park. We asked for advice at the information centre, and chose to do a walk between the 3 castles in the area. As we wanted to walk the whole way and avoid the cable car or taking a bus back, we had to... More

Besides the scenery being truly beautiful, Gauja National Park and Sigulda itself offers quite a few family friendly activities, especially for people who are more outdoor sports inclined. My family tends not to be, but we thoroughly enjoyed a 25km kayak down the scenic Gauja river, which I could honestly rank among my top 10 experiences. We didn't manage to... More
