Although the weather we unseasonably warm, there was still plenty of snow and sights on our walk round the park. We decided not to spend money on a tour- and frankly it is so easy to get around. 5 euro return for a comfortable coach with wifi in just over an hour. It drops you off outside the visitors centre... Can imagine it would be beautiful with lots of nature on offer in the summer months. We were the only people walking on the trail and were making prints in the snow. It was quite surreal, we were the only people following the trail. The trails were really well made with wooden footpaths and clear signs. We saw workmen working... More

Best enjoyed in warmer weather, this is a nature haven with various activities for the whole family. The walking trails are terrific and the caves etc, very interesting history.

Beautiful nature with the river Gauja. Wort to visit, walk some in the nature, see the calm river. Visit Sigulda, Cesis, there are a lot of places above the cities too!

We went to see the fall colours of the nature. 1 hour (2,4 eur one way) train ride from Riga. Lot of people around, but the views are not really that special, especially if you are expecting the "Alps or The Lapland of Latvia". The cost of the cable car (1000m, 10min ride) was 7eur one way! That was ridicilously... More

Visiting this park was possibly the best thing I did while in Latvia. I only regret not having a ride on the cable car over the river valley (it was having some mechanical issues and we decided not to push our luck).

Unless you have never seen a cave before, then this is one you can give a miss. It's supposed to be the widest and highest cave in the Baltics, but it's really just a hollow under a rock - 18 m deep, 12 m wide and 10 m high. Some of the carved names date back to the 17th Century... More

The Gauja valley are is called "Swiss of Latvia" and it is truly amazing place. There are nice trails for hikes and MTB and on some places you can put your tent for free (indicated on maps), however, it somehow does not feel safe (as e.g. in Estonia). I would recommend walking around all three castles, but to save time... More
