According to all signage and the website, this boat operates from 10am to 8pm at every half hour. At 3:45pm on a Thursday afternoon -- after having seen the 2:30pm boat at the dock earlier, so the boats weren't not running for some reason -- my friend and I started waiting for a boat. And waited and waited for an... More

We had a very peaceful, tranquil cruise on the canal and river, giving us different views of this beautiful city. The Captain was very hospitable, giving us a hot cup of tea, and some warming local Balsam liquor. It helped that we had done the bus tour the day before, so recognised lots of the sights.

After a day of wonderful museums and a second morning of walking the streets, we decided to take a break and take this canal tour. Two of us love to take pictures and we captured some beauties during the ride. The new library, and the city expanse as well as the bridge were beautiful. The boat wasn't full and the... More

Relaxing cruise through the canal and the river. Wonderful opportunities to take photo. Cruise advertises that it is a 1.5 hour cruise. Really it is less than an hour. Boats are ultra quiet.

We did one of these cruises on our second day in Riga. It was just before they closed up for the day with only one boat still in use. We didn't book or anything and just rocked up to its dock in the canal. Our boat was the lovely wooden Laima which was built in 2010. It was just us... More

We wanted to do this boat cruise, alltough it felt a bit touristic first. We walked to the freedomstatue and down to the river and paid 18€/person for a nice and relaxing cruise for 40min on an old beautiful woodeb boat. You can get a cruise for 10€ from the other end of the canal, but its not so nice... More

The main attractions about this 1-hour cruise for me were, firstly, the beautifully-kept and well-appointed old boat and secondly the blessed absence of a spoken commentary, making for a peaceful and comfortable cruise. The main sights which the boat passes are quite adequately explained in the free leaflet handed to each passenger. The cruise takes in the entire length of... More

It's a pleasant way to see around Riga but at 18 Euros for an hour or so and no commentary, poor value. I believe there are other less expensive options, so check them out before you jump aboard. web address is rigabycanal.lv

After two days of exploring Riga's Old Town, Central Market and Vermanes, Kronvalda and Esplanāde Parks on foot, it was great to see more aspects of Riga via the Canal Boat Tour from Riga By Canal. From The Freedom Monument walk towards Old Town, cross the wide (pedestrian) bridge over the canal, turn right once over the canal and straight... More
