Don't be on a hurry, take your time and enjoy the zoo. I liked Riga's zoo, there are many kinds of animals, birds and terrarium. There is an inclosure where you can pat sheeps and goats. All over in the zoo there are pointers which shows the way to animal you want to see. Recomended for children and adults :)

Riga zoo is a lovely, well-laid out amenity on the edge of the city. Set in parkland, there is plenty of space for both animals and visitors. My favourite place was the nocturnal room where, in darkness, the insects and animals are going about their business. Watching the ant colony cutting up leaves, and transporting them across water and perspex... More

I know that there are people who dislike zoos as a category. I am not one of them. My "home zoo," so to speak, is the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, where I grew up. It is right on the shore of Lake Michigan, with high-rise buildings behind it. The zoo in Riga benefits from an equally wonderful location --... More

One of my favourite zoos in Europe and for sure- the oldest one in Europe. There is nice selection of terrariums for those who love snakes and spiders!!!

We take our kids there every year and it never disappoints! It is not on the scale of say the Toronto zoo but for the size of the country and the age of the zoo, it delivers. I cannot think of any of the main zoo animals it is missing so well worth a trip to check it out. Bring... More

I really just wish someone would that a look at that lion. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the RIBCAGE should NOT be showing. We went in with good expectations based on reviews from Trip Advisor. It starts out ok, with seals, and flamingos and other animals that look relatively healthy. Then we ran into cows and goats, which... More

If you like animals and prefer zoos that offer good living conditions to all of it's residents, then the Riga zoo might not be the best place to visit. There's plenty to see, but some of the animals have terrible living conditions.

Not bad but much smaller than, for example, the Berlin Zoo. Could be a nice family day out, especially with children, provided, of course that the weather is nice.

I first visited the zoo in 1993. The memories still linger and, with some trepidation, I visited again this summer. The person in the ticket office was quite friendly. The paper zoo plan was not very user-friendly and did not seem to offer any logical route to cover the site. I was impressed by the new giraffe facility, the tropical... More
