did not want to give review as want to keep Tartu our secret but this city is fabulous. The people are extremely proud of Tartu and rightly so.

Old towns used to be the hearts of the cities. Here this heart is almost everywhere. Not only the old city is impressive. This is best place for gathering, hanging out, buy souvenirs or have a sightseeing. Tourist information is very good prepared, shops with staff from Tartu also looks nice and with friendly prices.

Very nice little town. We went for a visit when passing through Estonia on our journey to Tallin. Nice market square, lovely walk to the Cathedral through a park on a hill. Not much shopping facilities, but a good place to stop and have coffee or lunch.

The location given on the map is incorrect by about 1 km. This site and the one called "Tartu Town Hall Square" are actually the same thing, just different names. The town hall is the center of the old city. The map for Tartu Town Hall Square shows the correct location. The central focal point is the Kissing Students fountain... More

Well signposted, countless statues and prestigious buildings, lots of interesting details. The streets are cobblestone so choose a decent pair of shoes. The river, bridges, pedestrian areas and the lush green parks on river side create the final touch.

A few minutes walk from Antonius Hotel. Everything to see is within walking distance. Many restaurants in the area and full of life. There was a concert on the pedestrian zone on the Saturday evening after the Tartu triathlon.

Walking around in Tartu Old City will take you just a couple of hours, as most attractions are concentrated in a small area. Nonetheless, the walk will be relaxing and interesting, and you will certainly appreciate some nice spots as the main square and the hill behind it. I suggest you to get a local guide (Estonians are extremely proud... More

If you visit Tartu in summertime, the old city is very alive. Due to the University-life in Tartu, you will find that there are very much young people both day and night time. There are lots of cafés, bars and restaurants close to the walking street in the center. You can also find at least one vinoteq if interested. Old... More

The integrity of the old town appears to have been fairly well adhered to. Tourist signage to all sights is excellent. The visual pollution from advertising etc has been kept to a minimum. Look out for the eclectic variety of cycle stands and traffic bollards. The old town is very pedestrian friendly.
