Good sight at one of the entrances to the old town. There are flower booths and souvenir shops along both sides, shame on the McDonald fast food restaurant to the left!

Presumably this would be a lovely area with a small market, lovely shops and a great atmosphere. However there was a considerable amount of works going on when we visited and most of the pavement and road was dug up! Having said that all the shops were accessible and the atmosphere was not completely ruined.

Green entrance to the old city of Tallin that is cute and heart touching - a place you will definitely want to return to after you visit it once

This entrance to the old town (or new town depending on your aspect) is really lovely - the red towers at the gateway and the flower market is particularly lovely and the gift shops in this area are wonderful to browse local products!!

While I did not spend much time here I did walk through. The square is just outside the Viru Gates, entering into old town Tallinn. It seems very much like many other outside markets that I have visited. However, the fact that there are many local fares available should not be overlooked and I admittedly did buy a souvenir. These... More

Tallinn Old Town is a wonderful example of period architecture and to wander around it is fascinating. I liked the juxtaposition of the old and new building designs and feel it works well together.

The square is the access to the old town from the eastern side. It is now having several shops, but in fact the real beauty of the old town lies further inside.

This was a nice stroll over the Christmas period, was cold, was fresh, was a little bit of snow, was nice to pass some time and have a little walk to see what Tallinn center had to offer, and was just a nice place to see the old culture of Tallinn and the beauty it has to offer

Viru square and also Viru gates, right in front of the gates of the city, this important historical square is the gateway for access to the beautiful old town heritage of UNESCO. Stalls, flowers and many people who populate this beautiful corner of the city. Lively atmosphere both day and night, absolutely a must.

There is not much to see on the Viru Square - this is a square outside Old Town that used to be a parking lot and now has a shopping centre and hotel built at the square. Another thing is Viru Street that starts from Viru Gates and is busy with shops, restaurants and flower stalls.
