Vilnius is by far the most amazing city I've ever been to! art is present everywhere on the streets, young people are always walking or creating something. when I found out about the republic of Uzupis, I was amazed! It is a mock republic, created by the artistic community as a rebellion against the society. they have their national day:... More

Would suggest a walk to Uzupis if you have atleast half a day at hand while at Vilnius, the route by itself, from the Gediminas Tower / Cathedral / Old town square is worth a leisure stroll. The rickety bridge over River Vilnia which leads you into Uzupis reminded me of the pic i had conjured in my mind while... More

There’s not a huge amount of official to do's list here therefore the best way to discover spirit of Užupis - known as the Republic of Užupis, is basically an artist’s quarter surrounded by the Vilnelė River - is slowly scroll down the streets, spend some time in one of few local cosy restaurants, take a look to the backyards... The Republic of Užupis is a very small quarter in the easter part of Vilnius. It apparently has its own foreign minister, constitution (on the wall on Paupio gatvė), and parliament building (Užupio Kavinė restaurant), but it doesn't take itself too seriously. A great area in Vilnius for a drink by the river or some food in a cozy, little... More

I walked through this area on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I was more impressed with some of the graffiti art around Vilnius than the art in this area.

Full of small bars, beautifully dressed people, very quite and friendly - people don't even put curtains on their windows. Very small, isolated, full of old building, galleries and hipsters on bicycles. Though it all looks very natural and not snobbish. Definitely must visit!

If you expect to enter a hippy heaven, you would be disappointed with meeting a drowsy idleness. Almost a desert place. Just a few quiet junkies and some neck-nuzzler. The only funny day must be the 1st of April, the feast day.

We were told that a walk through Uzupis would be nice with artists. We did on the Sunday afternoon and while it didn't have the same crowds as the old town it was rather quiet and no thriving Mecca of artists, but it was a pleasant enough stroll. We just continued walking to the top of Uzupio Gatve and cutting... More

I walked through this area together with the free walking tour and it is a fabulous area to walk about. I enjoyed the people's expression in their art and attitude here. Do not miss reading their constitution!
