It's a hidden gem in Vilnius. If we didn't take the Free Walking Tour, we would never know about it. The concept is really funny and creative. I would advise you go there with a guide to listen to stories, as stories are the soul of the place, not the place itself.

Worth a walk through but you need to have read up on its recent history or go on the Free Walking tour so you can fully appreciate the "republic." A must-do is to read their "Constitution" which is posted on a wall in several languages.

If your planning a trip to Vilnius you really should have this wonderful unusual neighbourhood of the city pencilled in as a must go destination on your trip. The atmosphere is very laid back and bohemian, think of MONTMARTE in Paris or FREETOWN CHRISTIANIA in Copenhagen ,if you've ever visited either of these area's ,it has a very similar vibe. It's... Very fun, trendy, hipster neighborhood! It has a very different feel to it than the rest of Old Town, Vilnius and is set inside the curve of the river. It's very peaceful, chill, and fun to poke around in the little shops and cafes here. The statue of the angel blowing the horn in the center was mostly impressive because... More

Uzupis was nice to visit and the mermaid and angel are worth seeing as well as some of the excellent graffiti but I didn't get the vibe of Christiania in Copenhagen and it just felt a little run down in places. Worth a quick visit but nothing more.

What is this place? I understand it's some sort of faux-revolutionary wannabe republic of Bohemian something-or-other but where does it make this clear? It appears to just be another neighbourhood in Vilnius. I mean don't get me wrong, I love Vilnius, but why this little section of it gets so much attention is beyond me. I've been twice at completely... More

Vilnius is by far the most amazing city I've ever been to! art is present everywhere on the streets, young people are always walking or creating something. when I found out about the republic of Uzupis, I was amazed! It is a mock republic, created by the artistic community as a rebellion against the society. they have their national day:... More

Would suggest a walk to Uzupis if you have atleast half a day at hand while at Vilnius, the route by itself, from the Gediminas Tower / Cathedral / Old town square is worth a leisure stroll. The rickety bridge over River Vilnia which leads you into Uzupis reminded me of the pic i had conjured in my mind while... More

There’s not a huge amount of official to do's list here therefore the best way to discover spirit of Užupis - known as the Republic of Užupis, is basically an artist’s quarter surrounded by the Vilnelė River - is slowly scroll down the streets, spend some time in one of few local cosy restaurants, take a look to the backyards...
