We went here after reading the reviews and write ups in guidebooks but we were underwhelmed as we did not see much to make the visit worthwhile. We wondered if this was a PR exercise to get people in this part of the city.

First of all, it's not everyday that you come across a 'republic in a city'. It has own constitution (which can be read on one of the walls in many languages), own one and only guard (..ian angel) and even a small harbour. It's quite an interesting place to nose around when one is in Vilnius. It has an independence... More

Uzupis is a lively bohemian neighborhood like those that used to be found in bygone days in Paris, Prague, San Francisco, and New York. Given what Vilnius and Lithuania have gone through from the Nazis through the Soviet occupation, the contemporary vitality of Uzupis is a miracle—and worth making time for.

I had not heard of Uzupis before, and came accross it on the free tour. This is an artists community with a street vide. Loads of public art and a tongue in cheek approcah towards the republic. Uzupian Euros are available but can only be spent on April 1st and even then only on beer. Go on April 1st when... More

It is quite cute and it is so near the centrum so you can just take a small stroll and youre there. The main "gate" was quirky and the small town had amazing atmosphere. Inviting and also you could sense that people living there are proud of what they have done and feel connected to each other. I Also really... More

Walk inside the old town, you can easily found a place called "Uzupis" along a disgusting river. This is a place gathered a group of "artist" selling their hand made stuffs, drawing pictures and singing there. The environment is not fancy, just have some old paintings hanging on the walls of the broken little houses. Roads insided the areas are... More

Place like from fairytale, full of colours, smiling people, lazy atmosphere and beautiful buildings, sculptures, monuments. Easy to missed out, so take free walking tour started in front of town hall at 12 pm.

Nice cafes, restaurants, gallaries and shops. The atmosphere here is very nice and calming. This republic had its own rules, one of them is: a dog had the right to be a dog. Isnt that just great?

We just wondered up to this "independent island" of Vilnius by mistake, we had heard that it was the "artists quarter"... lots of enthusiastic people opening cafes / bars / shops and restaurants in this very unusual place. We went while it was raining, but enjoyed the eclectic massing of houses, starting with the rococo double fronted terraces all the... More

It's a hidden gem in Vilnius. If we didn't take the Free Walking Tour, we would never know about it. The concept is really funny and creative. I would advise you go there with a guide to listen to stories, as stories are the soul of the place, not the place itself.
