I have fond memories memories of exploring this large ancient castle. Roman armies were the first to encamp at Trencin, a Roman inscription survives on the rock of the castle hill. The view from the central tower are wonderful.

The castle presented as a challenge - so many steps to climb, with the promise of unbeatable views once attained. There is a small fee of €2.50 per adult, which we were happy to contribute. This castle is being restored in a sympathetic and responsible manner. Trencin has had a significant role in defence and this castle celebrates and commemorates... More

You have to choose and pay for a tour before you get in the castle are. However tours are only in Slovak and nobody has informed me of that until it was too late. If you enjoy views from up high though, I recommend the mini tour as it takes you go the top of the tour and the view... More

I recommend you hire a Slovak translator and bring them with you to see this castle if you do not speak the language. You can only enter the castle with a guided tour as they unlock the buildings as you travel around the castle. This castle was pretty neat with lots of cool stuff to see and explore. However towards... More

Another one of those castle, where you have to go uphill from the city centre. It is a short but steep walk. The short tour was long enough for us, and included climbing up the main tower, where you have a fantastic view onto Trencin.

Trencin is the place of my birth. Its historical part is the most beautiful part of the town with the castle that is proudly watching over the town and the Vah river, the silent green ribbon flowing through Trencin.
