Bratislava combined modern vitality with old-world charm; the atmosphere on the sunny day we spent, strolling the quiet streets, was tranquil and inviting. The city was mainly full of ordinary Slovakian folk going about their daily lives, attending noon-day mass at local churches. I'm not a great fan of churches, but there are exceptions and this is one of them -a church made out of blue and white icing -or at least that's what it looks like. Designed by Odin Lechner, this is an Art Nouveau masterpiece -all soft crinkly edges and beautiful detailing in a bright blue painted concrete with white detailing.... more
