The castle is, as noted in other reviews, a bit austere, but has recently been whitewashed which means when illuminated at night it does stand out across the city. The main reason for coming up to its walls are to take in the great views across the Danube and Bratislava, especially at sunset.

The castle has recently been refurbished. I'd actually call it fully repainted (and not done all that well) because they've overdone it a bit. It looks like it was built about two minutes ago. There's no dirt or anything anywhere and well, it is a castle, right? It should be a bit grubby and have a bit of character about... More

The castle is definitely worth the walk up. The castle itself is somewhat austere but the views of the old town, the river and of Slovakia, Austria and Hungary are glorious.

If you are visiting Bratislava then you really should take the time to visit the castle. If you are moderately fit then it's about a 20 minute walk up a steep incline. Great views from the castle grounds. Building of the original castle was started back in the 13th century and added to over the years. It was burnt to... More

The castle itself is nothing special. I've seen many much more interesting castles. The view from the castle is very nice!

Like most of the castles located high up in the mountain. It was a bit challenging to find the way up. Whomever we asked either didn't speak English or was tourist as well. The castle is located the other side of the highway and you need to go through an underground passage which was a bit freaky but definitely worth the... More

Climbed the hill to the castle which is very impressive being completely restored. Very quiet with few tourists. At first we thought the building was empty but did eventually find some galleries of paintings and objects which were very interesting. We climbed to the top of the Jewel tower but beware of the extremely steep stairs which are almost ladder... More

Probably not worth paying to go inside - but worth a walk up, and around it (you can go inside the grounds for no charge) - as the grounds are nice, and the views quite spectacular. The walk up may be a bit tricky for some, but the little red trains run up to the top.
