If you travel to Szentendre from Budapest, you must visit Skanzen. I suggest you leave Budapest by 09h00 - 10h00 as the H5 HÉV train ride will take ~45 minutes. For the H5 train to Szentendre, you need to buy the 15 km extension ticket (HUF 310 adults and HUF 155 for children who are students). Please don't use your... More

Are you planning to visit Szentendre, the tourist town located north of Budapest at the end of the HÉV suburban railway line? If so, you might want to time your visit so you can also visit the open-air museum known as the Skanzen. This open-air historical museum is located about 3 km southeast of Szentendre and can be reached by... More

A few capitals have places to "get away" from the metropolis. For example Madrid has Toledo, Minsk has Dudutki and Budapest has Szentendre: a place that not only visitors but locals visit regularly. If you go to Szentendre by car or by bike (you can take your bike by the HEV - suburban railway) or you don't mind some walking... More

We took bikes and it was right decision as territory is quite big. Nice place for getting know Hungarian lifestyle in previous centurie and It was good rest from Budapest rush. We spend 6000 HUF for taxi to get from Szentendre to museum. From museum to Szentendre we go by public bus.

Was looking at previous reviews and was amused by one which commented on all the walking. This is an openair museum set in some lovely meadows and although I was there in late September, it was warm nd sunny with an abundance of meadow flowers and numerous species of butterfly. Had just done a daytrip from Budapest, so didn't really... More

Literally a great museum, in the sense that is was good and really big! Don't think you can see everything in just one day, as it is too big. I decided to take my time and fully discover one 'town' in the museum. In my opinion that was the best thing to do. I enjoyed it very much! And there... More

I loved this place. It should honestly be at the top of the things to do in Szentendre, and made a fantastic day for me when combined with a late afternoon spent in Szentendre. I don't speak Hungarian, but there were signs in English at most 'exhibits'. Even though the staff didn't speak much English they were all very friendly... More

This place is a great entertainment for the whole family for the entire all day. Each of the houses were taken a part from different area's of the country and rebuild here. Not just you can learn of Hungarian history but the life of Europe were similar of Hungarian living.Unfortunately not all the staff speaks English to explain more about the... The open air museum is in large area, there is a small historical train going through, which we loved, this is great for kids. Most of the old houses are personally presented by the skanzen staff, playing historical roles, there were many animals, this is definitely a place where you have to take kids. The area is very large, so... More

Disappointing. This is supposed to be a working museum and no one was working. We were told all exhibits were open and they were. We went to see the shoe shop and heard the sound of shoes being made only to find it was a video playing. The train leaves the entrance/visitor center and makes various stops and ends at... More
