It's a huge synagogue, almost like dohany synagogue in Budapest. Worth to visit. You have to pay before the entrance, not a lot.

The synagogue is easy to find. Do not become bewildered on regard to its exterior which looks slightly neglected. Inside it is a feast of colours and dignity and in parallel a testimony of a more or less bygone era. Photographies are allowed. Do not trust on the opening hours as given on their website. According to their signposting at... More

Please, if you are in Szeged don't miss it. The Synagogue is a huge building looking like a cathedral from outside and it is extremely charming and fascinating. The admission is free but an offer is welcome. Inside it is richly decorated and there are photographs of the period when the Jewish community was numerous and active. It is an... More

Wonderful Art Nouveau building with marvellous stained glass windows. Exterior a bit ruiny, but the interior worth seeing. Entry fee applies (500 HUF)

The building had very impressive architecture. However marred by building/repair work going on at time of visit.

The Szeged Synagogue is the second largest in Hungary after the Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest, and the 4th largest in the world.

I was amazed by the beauty of the Synagogue in Szeged. Actually there are two of them right next to each other. The surrounding small streets are green and offer nice walks in the former Jewish quarter. Also small independent bars and restaurants are in the area. A must see for those who like architecture and history.

Visited the old and new synagogues via a tour guide from the Szeged Tourism office recently (May 2015), which I highly recommend you do. Although there is plenty of information on the Internet already about these two synagogues, for 1,000 HUF (under £3) for a one hour tour with a tour guide that includes entrance fee to the new synagogue...
