The place is on the World Heritage List, is really very nicely renovated. There is a nice modern restaurant with lovely view to the valley. We had a very good time.

I visited the Pannonhalma Abbey on a Sunday, leaving from Győr in the morning on the 8:00 am bus and arriving around 8:50 am (see below for more bus information). I attended the mass at 10am that lasted an hour. Then I completed an audio guided tour, had a delicious lunch at the onsite restaurant, quickly visited the lavender distillery,... More

A fantastic attraction - you can tour the 1,000 year old Abbey (updated of course), see the vineyards, the lavender fields, eat in its new restaurant and shop in the gift shop. The Abbey is a UNESO World Heritage building - it is gorgeous and very well preserved - it also houses a school for boys. The view from the... More

This abbey is the member of the UNESCO World Heritage list, so if you are in Hungary, you can't miss this abbey. There are a church and the abbey, but this building is the place for a school too. Really nice view to the plain, small villages, nice trips from the abbey.

If you're not Catholic or Christian you may not enjoy this specific stopover but it is definitely an interesting historical spot if you find yourself in Hungary on the way to Budapest. The over 1,000 year old Benedictine abbey is situated on top of a hill and offers a breathtaking vista of the horizon and the surrounding village. Our abbey... More

Lookds like it has recently had upgrades done to the facilities and that there is still on-going construction on the Winery and Chapel. The audio tour was very good and you could replay everything so long as you did not get to the end. Easy to reach by public bus from Gyor

We live in Hungary so we have time on our hands, for the regular tourist I would not make a detour for it unless you love abbeys & libraries. Despite being impressive from outside I found the inside to be visited quite small, basically you are done in 30 minutes (we had planned over an hour) and this is by... More

Very interesting place. Abbey is very old and full of heritage. The library is amazing, you have to see it. Gardens are OK but I come from a village myself so maybe that’s why they don’t impress me. Wine yard is really modern with interesting design (way its work rather than looks).

We have been there with some friends and relatives, I have enjoyed every minute of our visit to the Abbey. The place is totally refurbished After the visit we have tried the local vines, and bought some presents ( local made, like chocolate and vine ) in the gift shop to other friends.

So sad to read some of the reviews with low grades of recommendation..., but Pope John Paul II found it worthwhile to visit this place in 1996 on its 1,000 year celebration. But then, I have some special ties to this place. True, this is not the Notre Dame, but it predates it by 350 years. For the story of... More
