Really good atmosphere, not too expensive and just really cool! We went on a week night and it was still really busy and lively, with people even standing outside. There are a few different areas and bars, including a very nice wine bar and a cool upstairs area - very good for exploring!

Don't hesitate. Just go to Szimpla Kert. You've never seen any place like it unless you live in Europe. Enormous indoor/outdoor bar and pub with good food too. So many rooms and nooks and crannies to hide away in. In a really vibrant area with other bars and pubs, but none quite like Szimpla Kert. 2nd floor is non-smoking, at... More

We stopped here for one drink to see what ruin bars are all about - this was a fun place and definitely worth a visit. The decor is suitably strange and you can't help yourself pointing out things to each other ( e.g. " do you see that hairdryer?" " oh look at that on the ceiling " Etc)

Ruin pubs have originated in Budapest and only recently have started springing up in other parts of Europe. It has a very worn down kind of a look and therein lies its charm. Szimpla lies in a building which was partially destroyed in WWII and the interiors have been maintained in that manner -the feeling of sitting in an old... More

My wife and I went because we wanted to stop by and see the original ruin bar, and we ended up staying most of the night. The setup in an old Budapest courtyard/apartments is awesome, and we loved the different moods in the different rooms. We did not find drink prices to be that expensive, and the cocktails we ordered... More

You could easily walk past this place if you weren't looking for it but fantastically quirky and definitely worth a visit. Has an array of bars and indoor or outdoor seating, shisha bar and music. We had a bottle of wine for about £10 and cocktails were about £4.50. Needed a coat as it was chilly sat near the outdoor... More

Very original and authentic place, with decent prices and music. A must-visit in Budapest for sure! A place that will definitely be remembered in the long run! Ruin bars have a very interesting history in Budapest, which are part of the appeal.

Dont get me wrong, its great but the hipe is too much, prices are too high and constantly busy. You can find better ruin bars. Big burgers and tasty sandwiches.
