Do not let the House of Terror name sway your perception of this House. They definitely had the dramatic effects, but there was limited English on any of the videos (not even subtitles on 95% of them), so if you don't speak Hungarian, you must get the audio guide. Price is a bit steep at 3,000 Forint per person. The... more

A Must see. Opens at 10am, and bring your travel tourist budapest card to claim reduction. Drop bag in cloakroom and avoid cafe. Dont bother with an audio guide as in everyroom there is a plentiful supply of leaflets in English explaining in detail the content. Start at the top, and wander through to see and understand the full range... more

Visitors to Budapest who want to learn about its terrible recent history must visit the terror musesum near to the city centre. Pop into the tourist centre and they will tell you how to get there by metro. Tour took just over 2 hours and there were about 15 different rooms with audio taking you through the terrors of first... more

boring! I read the reviews here and had it down as a must see. Myself and my boyfriend (in our 20's) both thought it had potential to be interesting but there was just lots of rooms filled with televisions and memorbilia with no explanations as to what they were, and any english explanations were A4 pages with long boring detailed... more

Number 60 Andrassy Avenue is an elegant but ordinary-looking building which gives away nothing of it's sinister interior until you look up to the roof overhang which gives a bit of a clue... I don't usually visit museums but this stirred my curiosity; it is the most powerful, emotional, visually dynamic and thought-provoking exhibition I have ever visited and, because... more

The story of the House of Terror was very interesting. The only criticism was the layout and navigation throughout the 'house'. It was not clear what everything was, the context and the relevance. There were english naratives in every room that you enter, but this was very detailed and it was extremely hot. We got a little bored reading sheet... more

I can’t even remember what we saw in Budapest when we were there in May 2002. My sister was there teaching English at the time and it was a whirlwind tour of the city’s greatest hits, pre-EU. And then we went to the newly opened, maze-like "Terror Haza." Nearly six years later, I still think of this place - vividly.... more

This has to be a must see for anyone with any interest in Modern history. It is housed in the head quarters of both the hungarian Naziz (the arrow cross party) and also the hugarian soviets. Very cleverly laid out it starts off with an overview of Hungary as a land of two major occupations, and then takens you through... more

I visited this house last Friday on the last day of 5 wonderful days in Budapest and unfortunately didn't leave enough time. I realised too late that people were using headsets although I had not been offered any so if you go - ask at the start. I took copies of the sheets home and found them most informative. Definitely... more

Essential and informative, the journey within the buildings reveals so much that those who lived under communism suffered, yes there is a lot to read, but thank God the place is a memory to those who should not have been tortured and killed. The contrast between the oustide and the inside is unbelivible. I would recommend this. I think also... more
