I almost passed up this museum on a short trip and was SO glad that I didn't. Outlining Hungary's history under totalitarian rule, the House of Terror brings to light a truly horrific period of history, and stuns you with how far Hungary has come since. Entrance was 1800 HUF, or $10. Very worth it. My only, and substantial, complaint,... more

We were only in Budapest for a couple of days, (one of which was a MOnday, when a fair few museums etc. are shut) therefore Tuesday was the only day we had to really visit this type of attracttion. I had decided I wanted to go to the House of Terror and also the Holocaust Museum. We went along to... more

This was one of the best museums of its type that I have visited, especially so because the house itself is where much of the 'terror' happened, first under the Nazis and then under communist secret police. The presentations and atmosphere they create are very effective and some of the exhibits quite chilling. Forget the audio tour and just collect... more

I'm sad to say that this museum was a waste of time and money because of poor presentation. It was apparently only designed for Hungarians, even though the rest of the world could learn a lot from this dark period of history. I wish the exhibitions were more visitor friendly, especially for those who do not speak Hungarian. Having learned... more

I wholeheartedly recommend this tour. True.. the audio tour is identical to the sheets available in every room, so simply... don't pay the extra for the audio. Go into every room, read the pamphlet first, then go around and take it all in..... Take time to watch each TV screen in full, most are translated with english subtitles, Guys seriously,... more

I think more of a story could have been told, it was like it was an artistic representation of the darker side of Hungarian history, there were pamplets in each room, but perhaps if these had been up on the wall it may have been more suitable? I was dissapointed and left with more questions than answers. more

I feel like I now understand an awful lot more about the Hungarian people following my visit to the House of Terror. A stunningly put together reminder of the terrifying and all-too-recent Nazi and Communist episodes in Hungarian history. The story-telling was sympathetic, intelligent and immensely moving. This is not a light and fluffy topic and I feel the way... more

I didn't expect much when I went in, but from the first moments I was drawn in actively. It was a very emotional experience, and I felt a deep connection to the Hungarian people and what they have suffered under Communism and Nazism. One of the terrible truths of the 20th Century is that tyrants have turned powerful machines on... more

I have read the reviews on here and feel very dissapointed with some of the comments about it being a rip off etc. My father left his home with a suitcase in 1956 to escape communist rule like many other Hungarians so i have had an audio guide all my life. I appreciated all he went through but a visit... more

Like other reviewers I felt very disappointed with this museum. Both the audio guide and the written hand-outs were far too much information, like PHD level detail which no-one is going to remember. What it should be is short, shart and hard-hitting to make you feel. We were bracing ourselves for feeling very moved but instead I felt bored and... more
