Like other reviewers I felt very disappointed with this museum. Both the audio guide and the written hand-outs were far too much information, like PHD level detail which no-one is going to remember. What it should be is short, shart and hard-hitting to make you feel. We were bracing ourselves for feeling very moved but instead I felt bored and... more

After reading some of the other reviews of this museum I had to wonder if we'd visited the same place. That's the great thing about sites like TripAdvisor, though, you get different perspectives. From my perspective, I wish I'd have visited this museum immediately after landing at the airport. The museum covers both Nazi and communist oppression. One of the... more

On our 3 day trip to Budapest, we looked forward to attending the House of Terror Museum. After 2 days of various tours through the city, we were already sympathetic to the terrible treatment the Hungarians had received. We paid for the audio tour in English, so we could appreciate the full experience. After spending some time at this museum,... more

The idea of this house is good but the presentation and descriptions-writing can be improved. Although there are English handouts available at each compartment of exhibition, the handouts are too long (many have more than 1 page of A4 size) and not necessarily relate to what are being shown. I prefer to see the gist/brief in English on a board... more

I was interested in the history of Hungary, so I bit the bullet, paid the entrance fee and went to this attraction. The House of Terror covers Hungary's past under the Red Arrow Party. There were sheets of paper in English at the entrance to most of the (many) rooms and a few of the videos were in English. The... more

I have just been to the house of Terror and found it moving and very interesting. The staff and the whole museum is hugely respectful of the many many people who died in this place as well as further afield due to the misguided madness of a few deranged individuals. Everything in this museum is brilliantly done making you want... more

A grim reminder of the horrors of both the fascist and communist eras in Hungary. There is currently (Jan. 2009) a special exhibit about the Katyn massacre of Poles by the Soviets. It was gratifying to see an exhibit illustrating the suffering perpetrated against the Polish people by both Germans and Soviets during the World War II, in contrast to... more

Each person must decide for him/herself what is a good and what is an inferior museum. I found The House of Terror to be the ONLY place in all of Budapest where I could get any history on the communist era. A friend of mine who lives in the States and fled during the Uprising in 1956 told me many... more

The concept and idea of the museum is good, but not well-executed. The news and stories are all lost in a huge mess of information, disjointed reporting, and unorganized flow of chains of events. For example the two perpetrator regimes are joined/combined together in the presentation. It makes it difficult for one to follow the historical events in a chronological... more

As previous reviews have said the majority of display materieal is in hungarian , with some subtitled video and information sheets per room that do not necessarliy relate to the contents. However you just " feel" this museum. The horror, terror, fear and shock of what went on during those many dark years is oozing from the walls. You do... more
