Essential part of Budapest

The entire city is centered around this river. It makes for a beautiful city and lots to see along the Danube.

Had a great time on the boat, enjoying the scenery of Buda and Pest sides of the city. It's a great way to understand the layout of the city.

Hey! If you are planning for Budapest visit make sure you also book one of those Danube cruises. I would recomend you also take at least 1h walk tour near Danube coast.

We took a VIking Danube cruise from Budapest to Nuremburg in August 2015. The boats are only two years old and are very nice. We had a good time and enjoyed the locks and the Danube, however... We paid for an upgrade to have a balcony. Do not spend the money for this. Viking double parks the boats so you... More

Amazing river with the most beautiful riversides I have ever seen. I do recommend enjoying the sunset by this river. It's something very nostalgic and different.

Don't really know where the term "Blue" originated, personally I've never seen it blue. Maybe it's like the Kentucky Blue Grass - those that see it see blue. It's obviously a major river in Europe originating in the Black Forest. Many islands in the river, one of the best is Margaret Island - a recommended visit.

My wife and I travelled with this most excellent company aboard The Freya from August 15th to the 22nd. from Nuremberg to Budapest. From first contact with Silvia our booking agent, the cruise itself, and finally discussions with Mr. Martin in customer relations, the service was ABSOLUTELY SUPERB. I am in my 71st year and have travelled to many parts... More

My husband and I enjoyed walking along both sides of the river as well as across it. We even took a boat tour in the evening. What a thrill to see the beautiful buildings lit up along the river!

We travelled the Danube on a 3 hour dinner cruise with piano accompaniment and seeing the sights of Budapest from the river in the evening is an amazing sight.

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
