I didn't have too many expectations for the Gellert baths but was totally underwhelmed by the experience. The building itself is regal and beautiful, but it is definitely dated and hasn't been kept up terribly well. Most of the staff inside did not speak English and we were very confused about what to do and where to go. The mixed-gender... more

Terrible, terrible! Not organized- you enter and you don't know where to go. No towels, anything. they ordered us to separate-men to one direction, women to another- then my husband and I bumped into each other in one spot!!! The staff has this solemn-out of place attitude, they don't speak English, no indications in English. Two indoor swimming-pools were closed.... more

Reading reviews here and elsewhere I was a bit scared to even go but I can honestly say it's not half as bad as many reviewers claim here. First of all and most importantly, nobody in the world claims Budapest is a SPA destination!!! so get over yourselves and go to Thailand if you need to be pampered in lush... more

I'd read a few reviews on Trip Advisor saying it was dirty and crowed, etc, and had decided not to go. Fortunately our receptionist at the Easyhotel recommended it, and she had been right about everything else, so we decided to go. I'm really glad we did! The situation with the lockers was a little odd, with numbers being chalked... more

My partner and I just got back from weekend in Budapest. On the last day we went to Gellert Baths. I bought medical massage for both of us, 4300 forint per person. As it turned up the cashier gave me a coupon for normal/relaxing massage for 4000 forint. I only noticed it when to book the massage. It's not about... more

Not sure where to start with how bad the experience was! We arrived and were impressed with the building itself, it was authentic and grand, but when you got further in, you realised it needed a good scrub and refurb! We went to the desk to book our massages - we weren't given options as to what we wanted, only... more

This really has seen better days - splendid atrium, but baths themselves tired and grubby. Older attendants positively brusque & unhelpful. Other baths in Budapest offer better value & a more enjoyable experience. more

We went to the Gellert baths last week and loved the experience. The whole place is beautiful and the bathing experience is very relaxing. The prices are very fair and any language related confusion is to be expected, Ignore the naysayers. more

we visited the baths Feb 2009. we paid for a joint changing cubicle and left our belongings in the locked cubicle, to which the attendant had the key. we returned to our locker within minutes of leaving it, as we did not have the correct towel tickets, only to find the attendant in our locker checking out the pocket of... more

This was our one and only bath experience in Budapest, so I cannot compare to others, but it was recommended by a Hungarian friend. We enjoyed it tremendously - we went on a Monday morning around 6am and it seemed that the majority of bathers were locals, with a few tourists strewn in. The locker rooms were clean, as were... more
