Kids run this little railroad and they take it pretty seriously. It chugs about high above the city. I got off by Elizabeth Lookout, which is also where the chair lift is.

It was a fun trip and I would love to do it again in the future. The children looked very nice in their uniforms. They don't understand English very well so I suggest not to ask them difficult questions. We enjoyed beautiful scenery during our one-way trip ride. I suggest to bring some snacks and drinks so you can have... More

we got here not 100% easily... it is not as trip advisor app says where it is. we had to use reviews from travellers to find it! Once we got there the children at the counter couldn't really understand English very well. but we managed to buy a single ticket.. I would recommend as the return would be long and... More

It put a cheesy smile on my face to purchase our tickets off a very polite 11 year old! It was a bit surreal being waved unto the train by these younsters, having our tickets punched by a lovely shy little girl and watching them take real pride in their job. They are supervised by adults but you do feel... More

We couldn't believe what we saw, youngsters showing a pride in their work, running a railway, although there were some adults driving the engines and supervising. Well worth a visit when in Budapest.

We visited in February. It was a bit tricky getting here but with great directions it was easy to transfer the different trams and onto the COG to reach the railway. The station is nothing fancy and has children who work the railway (there are adults supervising). Our 9 year old son enjoyed seeing fellow children dressed in blue uniforms... More

We had so much fun and very good time! We were without children, but it was interesting for us even more :) old historical small train, wonderful landscapes. We left the train at Jànos-hegy stop, went to panoramic point on the top of the hill-amazing view of Budapest. And at the end we took chair-lift and enjoyed the view all... More

Took a chance on this as someone recommended it to us and we're not the type who go to visit railways. Really fun way to spend a few hours, and got chatting to an old biddy who used to be one of the kids working there. She worked there in the 1950s and explained the whole thing to us. If... More

We were staying near Hugosvolgy so it was easy to get to the start of this railway, staffed by children betwen 10 and 14. We went midweek so, perhaps, it was not the best time to visit. The girl in the ticket office could not understand English and gave us return tickets instead of singles but the price was reasonable... More

The Children's Railway was an enjoyable half day out - can build into a full day. Guide books tend to undersell this attraction but it's worth doing, especially if you feel like a few hours out of the city. Take the cog railway from Varosmajor, included in your Budapest day travel ticket, up to the end station. Follow the sign... More
