The standard (English) tour of the Opera House was my biggest disappointment in Budapest...and it's still getting a "Very Good" rating. There's nothing really wrong with the tour; I just didn't find it worthwhile in and of itself. So, if I had the opera house to do over, I'd either: 1. Walk into the lobby and absorb the interior from... more

I would really recommend going to see an Opera whilst in Budapest. It is a great way to spend an evening and the building inside is beautiful. I have never seen an opera before but it was fantastic. I read in other reviews that you can get tickets from £1 & at the time I booked on-line they were from... more

I've just been to Budapest and it is a very nice city. A very nice local law student, Ucey showed me quite a lot of the attractions of the city and this one was one of them. We were able to sneak into the building and see the interior. I recommend everyone to write him -- to get signed up... more

Visited the Opera House in March 2009. We had no problem in obtaining the seats next to the Royal Box.We have paid £80 for two tickets from the Box Office. The quality of performance was fantastic. From the orchestra to the singers to the set. The building is magnificent. Highly recommended. more

A female friend and myself booked to see the ballet at the Opera House in Jan 2009 (Snow White). My friend is a fan of ballet and I am a fan of gorgeous buildings, so we thought it would be a good experience for us both. We booked online and could get a tickets for as little as £1 each,... more

I'd say this was one of the highlights of our trip, it is a truly beautiful building and has fascinating history. We had a small guide group of about 10 people with an excellent host who spoke good english. She was very humourous and gave us a quirky history of the building, you could tell she really loved her subject... more

Just as everyone says, a stunning opera house, and the sense of history and tradition is everywhere - from the bust of Miklos Banffy on the grand stairway to the continuation of Mahler's tradition of playing the Leonore No3 overture before the final scene of Fidelio. This is where Matthew Barney filmed Cremaster 5! Fidelio was gloriously sung, and even... more

I think the Budapest opera house is one of the prettiest I've been to. It is smaller than some other European houses, but gorgeously baroque with a good deal of ornate detail. Ticket prices are very reasonable--so much so that I think, unless you are more a fan of architecture than opera, you should skip spending money on a tour... more

We couldn't believe we could get tickets the day of the performance for just $4! That's 800HU/forints. It was almost sold out and the performance was magnificent. Balcony seats but still very good. You can tour the Opera House during the day so you can learn about the building's gorgeous architecture...very worthwhile. more

We went to Parsifal on Good Friday. It was well done, well sung and well played. No complaints at all. The audience was extremely happy with the performance and applauded and bravoed for longer than usual. We had great seats on the first floor with full view of the stage and the musicians. It is a beautiful building with an... more
