lovely views, well worth the walk up, but there is also a lift up too. The Hilton is alsoup there, but not obvious, the church is the predominant attraction.

The exterior of this church is magnificent. Also unlike many of the massive beautiful churches in Europe the plaza for this one is such that you can get back far enough to take in the entire structure and also get a great picture. It is also is great condition, it must have been cleaned recently because it is very white.... More

I loved seeing the outside of Matthias Church. Very well done, and provides some good photo opportunities. Go later in the day, when it's not as crowded with tourists- you get better views of the church for sure!! I didn't have a chance to go inside unfortunately. I attempted to go to mass but was turned away with no real... More

At St. Matthias Church, get your ticket at the ticket windows across the street. In early 2013, the entrance fee was 1,000 HUF or about $4.25 US. Student, pensioner, and family tickets are also available. When I visited in early March 2013, the interior of the church was almost completely covered in scaffolding. Many areas of the church were undergoing... More

Please do not miss to visit this church, every thing -outside and inside- is very well done, with a lot of care ( that was how I felt ). precious articles could be seen where ever you look. In brief I can say that it is a "wonderful" church.

This church is in the final stages of being restored, as evidenced by the people still hand painting the patterns on the walls. It is without a doubt the most beautiful church we saw on our travels. The walls are painted with various geometric and floral patterns. We wondered if this was the remaining influence of the period when Budapest... More

Yea there is renovation and it can be noisy. On the other hand - not always possible to watch restorers at work and there is still a lot to see. And don't miss looking at the outside from a all the angles!

This church is an iconic landmark in Budapest and definitely warrants a visit. Unfortunately, when we visited it wasn't a sanctuary of peace and tranquility as there are extensive restoration works being out. It was sadly, very noisy but none of this detracts from the stunning beauty of the interior decoration, which must be seen to be believed. There is... More

Of course, travelling over Easter and wanting to visit churches do not always go hand in hand. Explanations of when it was open were not clear but we got there - and it was well worth the walk. There are few words that can do justice to the exterior and interior of this building - just go and see for... More
