Other reviewers have pointed out that this is a beautiful church but not as remarkable, architecturally, as others in Budapest. But it is, historically, the coronation church of the Hungarian kings; this is what makes it remarkable. I thought this church was just so-so. I guess I've seen so many churches (and we went to St. Stephen's that morning) that this one didn't impress me all that much. The neat thing was that the walls were all painted with different pictures and scenes and seeing that was neat and different from what is normally in historic churches.... more

If you've travelled extensively in Europe, this church is a definite must-see. The walls inside are painted, giving the church a very different feel than other churches in the region. This is where the coronation of Franz Joseph and Sisi who ruled the Austro-Hungarian empire took place, giving history buffs a nice link across the historical empire. Definitely read about... more

The church is undergoing major reconstruction, repairing damage, incurred during WW2, to the bell tower. The parts open to visitors are well worth 800HUF, the atmosphere is pleasant (ignoring the drill & hammer noises). more
