Perfect for a picnic, or filling your time with a lazy stroll through the park. There's a brilliant running track around the whole island as well, which lots of locals use.

The island lies in the middle of the Danube and you walk on to it by a slip road off the bridge. You can hire bikes, electric cars or just stroll about, we walked a bit... More

On a Sunny Sunday morning, we took off for Margaret Island and ran two laps around on the new spongy trail around the island. In the middle, we stopped at an exercise part and played with the contraptions, then kept on going. At one point, we heard Scottish bagpipes and saw a local gymnastic dance team practicing in the ancient... More

A small paradise in the city. Full of trees and flowers. A musical fontain is worth visiting. Since the island is about 2,5 km long, it is better for the first time to see it with a small train which costs 900 Hungarian Fiorints per person and does the round of the island in about 1 hour.

So much to do. We rented a 4 person buggy/bike to travel around the island. There are baths, pools, gardens, cafes, a zoo, roman ruins, a singing fountain..... etc. The day we went, everyone was blowing bubbles! The gardens were in bloom and lovely. What a wonderful place to spend quality family time enjoying each other and nature.

Take a stroll along this island. It's located in the middle of the Danube. The stroll is approximately 5 km. Many families recreates here. Also the island houses the city's athletic stadium for swimming. Some nice hotels are located here as well and a mini zoo.

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighborhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
