Description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and...
The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

Hungary has a fascinating history, of which this hospital is part. But the tour is very mediocre and does not bring that history alive. The best part was the introductory video. The guide had some interesting factoids, but mostly said little more than, "This was the registration room ... This was the women's ward ...", and the displays do not... More

A very interesting trip - the guide was excellent - you felt she was not just 'reading from a script' but had a depth of supplementary knowledge. Free for over 70s/half price for 62yr + and need your passport to get these offers. Plan to get there early to book your hour long trip for later in the day as... More

The escorted tours are timed and limited numbers of people. We got our reservation and came back for the timed tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. The hospital was amazing, if you have the time don"t miss it.

This unusual hospital, literally built into the side of a mountain, was fun. There is a good, 15 minute orientation film to watch prior to beginning the tour. It's very chilly inside (they do provide wool capes), but it was fascinating to see state-of-the-art medical care of the 40's and 50's. About 100 very lifelike wax figures of doctors, staff... More

We had a few hours to kill and could not get in the Parliament. We tried this and got a discount for being a teacher and nurse and had friendly service. The best part was learning all about Budapest's history. We enjoyed seeing something very special and unique there.

A very interesting tour of the hospital that was built in the caves of buda during ww2. Our tour guide Nora was very informative and enjoyable to listen to. The subject matter can be sobering at times but that's reflective of the history of the area. By the way, it's really not that cold down there ;-)

A one-hour guided tour takes through the emergency hospital that operated in the caves beneath Buda Castle during the Second World War. You will see examination rooms, patient wards, operating rooms which contain original furniture, instruments, and equipment. The exhibit is enhanced with wax figures which serve to reenact events of the time. You will also see the Soviet Cold... More

It is hard to imagine the labyrinth underneath or the conditions under which people worked to save lives until you take this tour. You start the tour with a movie, and then your guide leads you through the hallways, patient areas, operating rooms and so on, all within what used to be a cave system. (The small caves were mapped... More
