I thought hospital in the rock was an excellent and interesting museum. A bit different, too! The tours are on the hour and last 60 minutes. There are plenty of cafés to enjoy a drink if you just miss a tour (like we did) and wait for the next one. You can only visit the labyrinth of rooms as part... More

An excellent historical tour that gives one a glimpse of the pressures that the medical staff dealt with during the war. Aside from the various maze of caves leading from the triage rooms, operating theaters and medical wards, one has to admire the engineering to keep the hospital running - the air and water purification systems together with the anti-radiation... This is an "off the beaten path" tour, but, one of our top excursions in Budapest! We took the funicular up the hill and then walked to the Hospital in the Rock. It is a bit tricky to find, but worth asking locals for hints to reach it! Built during World War II to house their Hungarian injured, reopened during... More

If you visit Budapest don´t miss the opportnuity to join a guided tour in the Hospital in the Rock! It is worth every minute you spend there. It really touched me to hear about the circumstances under which the heroes of everyday life worked there to save the lives of thousands of strangers without caring about their own. It is... More

Would have liked to tour this on my own as wanted to look at it at my pace. Interesting looking at the hospital area but not as interested in the machinery area. Need to watch you head as there are low areas and pieces of piping etc jutting out. The video clip at the start is informative. Wear sensible shoes... More

This attraction was interesting. It charts the hospital's development from the 30s through the War and into the Cold War. Guide gives good background to what happened, but visitor is left feeling that more could be offered, for example wax works are very amateurish and the tour felt rushed maybe because it was the last tour of the day.

A fully functional WW II hospital inside caves? With its own air, water and electricity supply? That was subsequently converted into a nuclear bunker during the Cold War? Really? Only in Budapest!! Our family (inc daughters aged 11 & 13) loved this somewhat spooky and certainly fascinating peek into some of the tougher moments of Budapest's 20th century history. There's... More

Please do not let the setting of this marvelous hospital deter you from taking a guided tour. It is built in the caves on castle Hill and is truly unique. It may appear claustrophobic but it is not at all. The guides are excellent and the experience of viewing what was an excellent hospital in its day is very worthwhile. You... More

My teen son and I took a tour in June during our visit to Budapest. Guided tours are offered in English hourly There are many discounts available (teachers, doctors, nurses, military & more) and the cashier asked me if I qualified for any of them. Tour is preceded by a short video. They have woolen capes that you can borrow... More

This was a surprisingly interesting visit. We arrived 5mins after the English tour had departed, but we were taken to join the group. Our guide, Judit, was excellent and the tour was so interesting. The time flew by and it didn't feel like almost an hour in length. The wax models were a bit creepy and this is not a... More
