Description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and...
The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

The Hospital in the Rocks is built within natural caves under the Castle hill. This tour will lead you through a maze of rooms and corridors which still has original furniture and equipment from WW2 and the 50s. The presentation is well done using many wax figured dressed up as doctors, patience and soldiers. Very realistic! The entrance is located on... More

This place is fascinating, it was probably my favorite attraction in Budapest. What you have here is, well, a hospital and fallout shelter in a rock. The first part of the Hospital is exactly that, it is dedicated to recreating a WWII era hospital, not only that but it shows progression, up through the cold war to the present day.... More

Fascinating site, really worth going to. Enthusiastic, well-informed guides take visitors on an hour long walk through this underground hospital. The medical etc kit on display is interesting but the theme that most resonated with me was (as in other places in Budapest) the incredibly harsh history of the country over the last 85 years.

Loved it! Definitely worth doing to get an insight in to something slightly different. A well guided tour in English and very informative.

Lots of information provided on this trip, however I wasn't fond of the 25 minute video at the start. Even though we had opted to go on the 'English Tour' the video was in Hungarian with English subtitles, which would have been fine if we weren't at back without our glasses! Some parts of the tour are interesting, and some... More

I love history, especially when it concerns WWII, so I made the effort to get to this museum while in Budapest on a business trip. The entrance fee is fairly reasonable: around $10-12 USD, less than $10 for physicians, military and law enforcement. This fee includes a guided tour, lasting approximately 1 hour. My guide was a very good speaker,... More

Brilliant displays in the original setting. Very good bilingual tour-guides It is unfortunate that you can only tour the facility with a guide in a group settiing so there is no opportunity to linger, read the posters, etc.

History at it's craziest! One can only imagine the tragedy of this beautiful city and the terrors of this hospital bunker. The authenticity of the hospital and it's uses are spot-on. There are quite a few outdoor stairs to arrive at the entrance unless one takes a taxi and is dropped at the door. My guide spoke better English than... More

Best historical tour ever. The Hospital in the rock has guided tours every hour, in different languages. (They only have guided tours because it's a maze down there). The later tours after 10 and 11 seemed to have larger groups, so might be a good idea to go during early times or maybe later times. They have a gift shop... More

I would rate this much higher if the tour guides had better English. I went here on two separate occasions with people who were visiting me in Budapest and the visits were very different. The first tour guide had good English language skills, was personable and spoke loudly so people could here. The second tour guide was basically impossible to... More
