This place is quite easy to find as its just behind the parliment building. However you do need to cross a very busy road to see them. Makes you feel very humble to see such a sight and to know the people who wore those shoes are no longer with us. I would def say go and see this it... More

These are located just before parliament when walking from the chain bridge end. Not sure what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't as many pairs of shoes as there are. All shapes and size from boots to children's. Definitely worth a stroll along the river and some time to contemplate what actually happened at that point.

Worth the time to find this monument (just be careful crossing the street over to the Danube). Simple but profound! When we visited, the shoes were filled with and surrounded by flowers and candles.

This is not something that is widely publicised. It's situated in front of the Parliament building but as there are roadworks going on you need to walk a fair bit to the left to cross the road but it's worth seeing. It's a memorial in honour of the Jews who were lined up on the wall front, told to remove... More

This memorial is located very near the Parliament building, on the Danube Promenade. (At the moment It is a little difficult to get to because of the construction work being carried out in the area.) This is a very simple and emotional tribute to those Jews who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II.... More

It's so simple, but really makes you think and feel. I agree with fellow reviewers that it's moving, and that one focuses alot more on the children's boots. Really well-done memorial. My suggestion is to print the map before trying to find this place for the first time. It's not well-marked and it's separated by crazy highway traffic. We heard... More

The shoes are reminders of the persons who lost their lives along the Danube to members of the Arrow Cross, many were Jews or Roma. They were shot and fell into the river.

Visited the monument last year and is very impressive. Food for thought! The shoes look very sad and so they should be. Beautiful monument!

Then look at the size of some of the shoes. Then feel very lucky. Then just sit and reflect. Then go and have a drink.

We took a walk before breakfast and did not stop until we came so far we could see the shoes. We do not regret it . It was a moving sight. There were candles and flowers among the shoes. We noticed especially the small childrens' boots.
