The castle of Ljubljana is just one of the castles in the city but certainly the biggest. A mighty medieval fortress, a symbol of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.

A steep hike but well worth it. Not just for tourists - there appeared to be many locals enjoying the scene. The views are lovely. There is a cafe and nice restaurant too.

There are a few (3?) different paths to walk up the hill to the castle. The views on your way to the castle are nice, but the best view is on top of the castle!

Although you can still see lots of interesting exhibitions on a cloudy or rainy day, I would recommend to visit when the sun is out so that you can see the city view better.

The castle is a very good experience when you visit Ljubljana. The view of the town as well as the well organized museum are worth the tiring walk to the hill.

We took the walking path up to the castle, which awarded us with views of the city, if you didn't mind the trees in your photos. But that was fine, because once you get to the Castle and purchase the ticket for the viewing tower, the walk makes up for it. What a beautiful view from the tower. My kids... More

Nice restored castle with various modern displays within the old fabric of the structure. Tower has great views of the city and on a good day the views are superb. Tour includes a virtual tour giving the history of the development of the site. Best displays were the potted history of Slovenia during the 20th Century with many Soviet era... More

Ljubljana castle was great value for money at €8 for an adult ticket which included a return trip on the fanicular railway, tower access which offers great views of the city, museum and virtual tour. The tower is great for photographs of the city with the alps in the background.

In order to turn the fortification into a modern and active conference area, many of the "original" historic elements inside the castle have been replaced by modern plate glass. On my first visit to Ljubljana, I found this modern feel a bit off-putting, but on subsequent trips I began to think that the incorporation of the castle into a working... More
