This is the second time that we have visited the castle. The first time was in December when the city was enveloped by thick fog and we couldn't enjoy the views. On this occasion it was over 30 degrees and the views were absolutely breath taking from the viewing tower. The funicular train journey adds to the enjoyment as you... More

Went here and was surprised at how big it was! 10 euros to get a return trip on the funicular and entry into the 2 museums there😊...First museum Chamber of torture was ok to look at and take a few pictures...Then the puppetry museum was rather creepy as has scary looking puppets in there but good as you can interact... If you're visiting Ljubljana a visit to the castle is a must. A walk on the castle hill is really nice and not too heavy. On the top there are walking paths and you can see Ljubljana from different points. The view from the tower is also amazing, you can see the whole Ljubljana from up there. In the castle... More

If you're in Ljubljana you must visit the castle. It's a beautiful castle (with the exception of the "new" clocktower which doesn't look like it fits) and the shops inside are neat, cafes are good and views of the city and the Julian Alps are cool, too. It's about a 20 minute leisurely walk from the city to the castle.... More

Ljubljana Castle is at the top of a hill, but it is only a short walk up (maybe 10-15 minutes). There are several paths up, the most popular is from the Old Town. If walking doesn't suit you, you can catch the tourist train, which goes up to the castle and back regularly (4 euros return, 2.20 euros one way).... More

Worth a visit just for the views off the tower. Need to go there on a day when the weather is clear and sunny.

The interior of the castle complex feels a little like its lost its soul somewhat, full of shops and cafes and the like, but that doesn't make it less attractive necessarily. Take the funicular up, enjoy the views from the towers and then wander back down to the Old Town via the paths among the greenery.

A must visit attraction in Ljubljana that you will see from almost everywhere in town. The views from the castle and watch tower are awesome. Entrance to the courtyard is free but the tower and the exhibits requires a ticket. Definitely take the path from the town up as you get very nice views.

It is definitely an impressive a structure crowning the hill that overlooks the city. Once up there the museums within the castle, are not very impressive, no photography, and sparse English language signage, so they maybe skipped.

The castle is a dramatic building dominating the city. Getting up to it is an exciting experience, either by cable-car or a long, steep climb. The views from the towers and battlements were well worth the effort. Visitor services have been cleverly inserted into the castle without ruining its essential character. There is a cafe in the courtyard, and an... More
