Make your way up to the top, by foot or by "cable car", and you will have a beautiful view over Ljubljana and Slovenia. The beautiful flag of Ljubljana waves over the castle. Besides the tower there isn't really much else to see, other than enjoying the silence, having a drink and sit under the trees.

I went here with my family while staying in Slovenia. The funicular ride up to the castle was very exciting for the children we had with us and made the castle more accessible. The views from the castle are spectacular. The attraction itself is fairly modern compared to some of the other castles we saw in Slovenia but if you... More

It's a nice funicular ride from the main part of old town, and there is a very nice view of the city from the top of the tower. However, we were very disappointed in what the castle had to offer. In the tower is a nice movie about the history of the castle, but most of the display rooms in... More

Take the guided tour! We had an excellent visit with some "time travel stops" where historical people of the history of the castle where explaining different stuff. If you don't get the guided tour, you'll miss a lot of the castle and it will just be another castle. I recommend to go up walking instead of taking the finucular. there's... More

So much of the original castle has been destroyed over time that when the Slovenians finally decided to try and do something with the ruins, most of the options involved knocking it down and starting again. As it is they have rescued everything they can but really what we have at the top of the hill is mainly C20th glass,... More

My son and I went up and really enjoyed this fixed up castle. Incredible view of the surrounds of Ljubljana. The movie is worth it with a short history of how the city / fort was a Celtic, Roman center and then converted years later into a hospital by Napoleon (that guy really got a round...).

This castle looks stunning but has been renovated so many time there isn't much left of its character. The view is stunning and the journey up on the funicular railway is great fun.

The castle is the most prominent land mark in Ljubljana, and is perched on a hill right above the town. One can access it by a lift, or on foot, which is really good walking exercise. Once at the castle one can choose to take a tour with a guide and I highly recommend this. The tour details the fabulous... More

The castle is not one of the best I've ever been to. lots of modern infrastructure built around it and almost in it doesn't really work for me. Nothing much in the way of an interior, its all about the views over Ljubljana though there are some interesting displays, plus the funicular is fun to do to get there. Its... More

This castle is a good example of how to blend the new with the old. In the courtyard there is a modern al fresco cafe and also and al fresco restaurant. There are also historic displays with the possibility of a paid guided tour, and short video presentation and a climb up the tower for outstanding views over Ljubljana and... More
