Representatives of guilds and merchants met in the Town Hall here (demolished in 1817), fairs and occasional executions were held. The four sides of this vast square are named after the most famous 18th century Polish parlamentarians. Destroyed during World War II, the square was rebuilt to look as it did when rich merchant families lived here in the 17th century. With its little cafes and street performers, it's an interesting place to admire the architecture and to taste local beer and food. « less

Beautiful place to wander around, lots of bars/cafes/restaurants to choose from to watch the world go by. Word of warning - watch out for the outsize cobbles and high drain covers - even in flat walking shoes I went flying, and brought home bruises and sprains which I could have done without. Luckily this happened on our last day, so... More

It is worth to visit this place and wandering around. The buildings are really nice around the square. Just choose any of the streets at the corners of the square and walk along them.

This square is a very beautiful one with many shops and food vendors. The ice cream available there is very good, inexpensive, and plentiful! It is suitable for families, as I saw many local people with their children out for a stroll. A good place to buy a souvenir of our trip or "snap" some of your own with a... More

Warsaw was flattened during the war and so this area has been rebuilt as it looked originally. I took a free walking tour provided by the city which was well worth. The guide was fluent in English and knew her history.

This marketplace, concentration point of restaurants and excellent spot to have an overview over the typical houses of the old town became a centre for my travel companions and me. After a long day's walk, we finally felt like coming home (we lived in the old town) when we recognized the Market Square. The most outstanding part of this place... More

Rather a tourist "honeypot". The restaurant touting is a little annoying but the atmosphere was good overall.

Lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. And don't miss the statue of the mermaid with the sword in the center. It is a feature on many Warsaw official items (like the police cars :-).

Rebuilt and now a UNESCO world heritage site. Explore the cobbled streets and then find an outdoor table at one of the may cafes and watch the people, horses and entertainers all around.

Beautiful old houses, all colourfully restored, cobblestones, horse and carts, fantastic shops and cafes. Gives you have an idea of what this beautiful square looked like years and years ago. Marvel at the fact that this was all destroyed by the Nazis during the second World War and was completely rebuilt by the Poles. Sit and enjoy a coffee and... More
