Seems to be the central point of Torun and a great meeting point. However, I don't recommend making the Monument one of your trip destinations.

A photo at this spot is a mandatory ritual for all visitors. Be prepared to wait your turn. Statue dates from 1853 so it too has earned its place in history. The nearby so-called Raftsman monument with the frogs is more fun!

Imposing in its location in the Rynek, with accompanying fountain. Nice place to sit and enjoy a lody. Young couples like to hoist themselves up on the raised base to take pictures. Schoolchildren like to gather in front with their souvenirs. Pigeons drink at the fountain and alit on the statue. It represents Torun's history as Copernicus' birthplace. It's a... More

Nice status but nothing 'wow' or special. It is location in the main square and thus is the obvious meeting place in the whole city. Just be specific when you say ' I will meet you at Copernicus' - as everything in Torun is called Copernicus!

I visited this museum/house because it might have been where Copernicus lived (it's either here or another house that has been torn-down, no one's really sure). While there is not much to see- artifact-wise, and very little is in English, it's a nice place to wander around and see how the 1% of past times lived. The little light show... More

The monument is a good landmark as a meeting point. There is always so done trying to take a photo with it.

It's not often one can take a photograph of a statue of Nicolaus Copernicus in his hometown, so when in Torun it's the thing to do. The statue is located in the Old Town square next to the Old Town City Hall. During the time I was there it was a popular subject for photographs. People informally lined up to... More

It is very fitting that Copernicus, who was born in Torun, is given pride of place in the Old Town square, with this large statue. His views on heliocentric theory (planets go around the sun), must have been shocking and blaspemous at the time, but I'm not sure just how much he shouted about them. Well he's strutting his stuff... More

It was very heartening to see such a great scientist proudly revered in his hometown. The statue presents a good photo op and meeting point for locals and tourists.

This is a central place in Torun for folks to meet and start the tour of the old town. Nicolai Copernicus is a person of his time -- a person of Germanic origin, who considered himself a Polish citizen but wrote mostly in Latin! He was truly neither Polish nor German but a citizen of the commonwealth.
