We decided on a guided tour from Krakow using Krakow City Tours as we wanted to make the most of our visit. We have always been glad we took guided tours of other cities / attractions we have visited across Europe. The coach guide spoke excellent English and they showed a film about Auschwitz on the way which was a... more
Take the mini bus from the lower ground floor of the main train station. It goes every 20minutes and drops you off at one of the entrance gates. It is a 5minute walk from the drop off to the main entrance. Buy the ticket on the bus. Be prepared to stand if you cant get a seat (1.5-2hrs!-this is the... more
Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camp sites, are a must to visit. They are memorials to those that suffered and died there. Obviously very sad, but we must not forget the evils of ethnic cleansing. Very relevant today. The vast site of Birkenau was just unbelievable. more

The film, english guide for auschwitz I and II (that includes a shuttle between the memorials) costs 33 PLN. The movie starts at 10 am and ends in about 15 minutes,... more

We (4 adults) visited on 10 October 2009. It was a rainy day, but this seemed to be appropriate to the place that we were visiting. Other visitors commented much the same. We were taken to Auschwitz by Thomas from Krakow Trips www.krakowtrip.com which I have to say was invaluable as we were on a short time scale. We had... more
I have just returned from a trip to Auschwitz- Birkenau which I have always wanted to visit, its a truly sad place where the most unimaginable horrors took place. But I must say I was very dissapointed with the organisation of it all. We had taken the bus from Krakow which was easy enough but when we got to the... more
