Białowieża National Park is very pleasant place for long walk or bike trip, but not expect seeing something more than trees :) For that better solution is staying couple of nights in nearby villages - people often see bizons walking out of the forest. European bison Show Reserve is also an option, it's cheap and interesting altough a bit small...

Visit the museum and the exhibition before you go to the forest - it helps put it into context. Be careful of the guide that you hire at the PTTK office - check their English is competent. Beware that it is rare to see any animals - you have to go to the reserve for that.

In June of 2010 we went with our guide Waldemar Krasowski to learn about birds and natural history of two National Parks in Northeast Poland. Our main reason for returning to poland was to see the world Heritage park. The material we read online painted such a wonderful picture. We had expected to see some wildlife at the very least.
Unfortunately as you are limited to entering the forest with a guide , who we then found was limited to where they can take you....
