I have been to the castle many times and there have been a lot of really nice exhibitions (Japanese samurai swords, history of handbags, etc). I can highly recommend going to the exhibitions, but you should check in advance several things, 1) which exhibitions are there, 2) if you really need the ticket to the castle itself and 3) if... This is a history of the town but specially the prison. Interesting but I think children would struggle and it really is expensive , which showed by how few visitors there were.

There is a green hill in the middle of the town and a fortress on the top. You can easily go back for centuries, you can find traces of Napoleon, baron Trenk, Babinsky - the famous robber and murder,, heroes of Italian revolution, cataacombs, singing bells. Allow yourself be surprised!
