First, the name of the castle is "Hrad Veveří", not Statnim Hrade Veveri. It is located near Brno and the ideal way to come is by bus, car or - the best choice - by boat, which belongs to Brno public transportation. The trip will make a half of the impression as the castle itself may be disappointing. There is... More

We have not had enought time to visit the interiors, so the rating is for exteriors of the castle only. From a distance it looks fabulous, inside the castle walls, it is difiicult to say. Apparently some reconstruction works are on, but the buildings looks quite shabby and somehow abandoned. May be the interiors would change my oppinion, definitely will... More

This place is about 90 minutes out of Brno by public transportation. Note that a couple of tram lines, 1 and 3, are not operating out here at the moment. There is a boat that goes up Brno Lake from the tram stop to the castle. There is also a bus from the tram stop as well. There is some... More

Really enjoyed our trip with some Czech freinds to the castle, abuse over the last 60 years is very slowly being put right and I hope that they can get back some of the missing furniture and paintings. This combined with the boat trip from Brno makes a geat day out

Whoever likes taking long walks, should not miss this one regardless of the season (summer, winter etc). Take the tram to the lake and walk the path all the way from the tram stop, to the bridge opposite the castle and from there to the castle. There are other tracks to follow but this is the best one.

Veveri castle could come across as dissappointing if one is not familliar with the history of abuses it has suffered, several in the latter half of the 20th century. Reconstructions and restorations are a relatively recent development for this particular castle. The Nazis used it during WWII and gutted it while in the process of retreating late in the war.... I was disappointed with this experience as there is really nothing to see in the castle - you actually cant go inside - so you can just walk around and we could look around from a tower. Btw the food and beverage was very pricey....

Considering other castles of Moravia and Bohemia, this is just an average castle as far as the buildings are concerned. But the environs are really nice, boat trip to the castle (from Brno) is definitely recommended, and they sometimes sell very nice Moravian wines at a castle shop. BTW, the name of the castle is just "Hrad Veveri", one could... More

Old castle that had been very well reconstructed over the recent years basically out of ruin, located in beautiful countryside around Brno with possibilities of nice walks and cycling trips. There's a lot to see at this castle, including a museum, sights of the area around it and mainly special events that are going on from time to time.

I really really hope I spelled it right!! We bought tickets back/forth since we didn't want to walk for two hours to get back. But nice idea if you have a bicycle at your disposition. The boat trip was lovely, we enjoyed the scenery very much. We watched nature in all it's forms, fishing for carps, naturistic sunbathing, families enjoying... More
