See Don Giovanni

We saw "Don Giovanni" in the beautifully restored Estates Theater, where it was premiered in 1786. It was a beautiful production and an experience not to be missed.

Went to Prague for long weekend just to see this opera in this theatre so was worried it might not live up to my very high expectations. It did, and exceeded them! The theatre is small and ornate and felt like stepping back in time. The opera was fantastic. Very simple scenery and stunning performances by the singers. So impressed... More

I cannot set this review to the correct date (May 2013) but I wanted to add a brief review of experiencing Mozart's masterpiece in the theatre it first premiered in. One of the highlights of my trip to Prague, this theatre is a gorgeous venue and the production while heavily stylised was musically superb!

Really enjoyable production and a beautiful theater. It was interesting to me that the theater itself was so beautiful and had amazing attention to detail while the scenery for the show itself seemed so plain and barely there but it really didn't matter it was just such a pleasure to see this opera.

We chose for our first opera, "Don Giovanni" in the Estates' Theater. The theater is quaint and personal and not a bad seat in the house. Mozart completed "Don Giovanni" in this theater (so the story goes) and premiered the opera in this theater. Pretty neat to see one of Mozart's operas in the theater it was premiered in. Very... I almost hesitate to review the Estates Theatre as I'd like to keep it as a secret, special place. However in the spirit of TripAdvisor I will share that it is an exquisitely beautiful place where you can experience great opera at a really low price. It was marvellous to attend a performance of Don Giovanni in the venue where... More

I saw Don Giovanni from the 2nd Balcony in the middle last night, and it was absolutely extraordinary. The building feels like it hasn't changed much in hundreds of years, and you can get relatively inexpensive tickets (450 CZK) in a balcony box which feels so fancy. I've seen others complain about balcony seats requiring craning of the neck to... More

I went to this theatre to see a performance of Don Giovanni and had a delightful night. The theatre itself is beautiful, the view from our seats in the second row to the ceiling and balconies is amazing. To see the orchestra playing their instruments while watching the opera was a special memory of Prague. The Estates Theatre is well... More

This is the place you see in movies but never think you could end up here. It's fantastical. Everything is detailed and ornate-- the chairs, the ceiling, the chandelier, the curtain, the support beams... The building is breathtaking. And the opera was nice, too. Weird set design; good costumes. Really, someone could have sung a few notes, and I wouldn't... More

I just returned from a last minute trip to Prague where my husband had multiple days of business meetings so I was solo for three days/evenings. I purchased my tickets for The Marriage of Figaro before leaving home. I was in Dress Circle (1st balcony) Box 9, Seat 3. I would say that was the perfect place to see the... More

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
