There are 2 main streets along the Tepla river: the more beautiful one is the Stara Louka on the left side of the river.
One of the reason is that you walk it and there are no cars nor other disturbing vehicles ...

By walking it all along you reach the 2 beautiful colonnades: The Mill Kolonada and then the Vridelni Kolonada with its small and lovely park adjoining it.

It is of course a must see in this splendid town of Karlovy.

You have there Spa's, restaurants, souvenirs sellers all along which make it even more interesting as you can stop and buy gifts for your relative and friends.

And of course at the end you'll enjoy a nice and well deserved break at the Kolonada Park.

Visiting Karlovy and not walking this beautiful street and its splendid pieces of architecture would be missing the whole point of it.

It is a nice street with a lot of shops and friendly people. Architecture is for sure something "in plus" for this place but for sure it's not a "must see place". Just nice for an afternoon walk.

There are two streets on either side of the river. One is called the stara Nuvo and the other one is this. Right at the beginning of the town ( after the massive exhibition hall used for the film festival ).

Filled with beautiful medieval buildings, spas, restaurants and cobbled roads...Best part of this? This is a traffic free zone. You can enjoy a leisurely walk, have the famed Czech beer or dig your teeth into some scrumptious traditional dishes.

Overall...just awesome.

We visited Karlovy Vary on a day trip. It is generally very picturesque. Especially this street, "stands out". It has a lot of shops, cafes and restaurants very beautiful, unfortunately a little more expensive compared to other parts of the town but it worths to make a promenade and have a coffee.
The filming of the James Bond movie "Casino Royale", took place in Karlovy Vary.

We parked by the Albert Supermarket not far from the bus station and walked the full length of the valley walking down on one side of the river and returning on the other side of the river. The day we went was slightly overcast but this did nothing to detract from the beauty of this spa town which is full of imposing imperial buildings. As others have commented for a Czech town cafe's etc are very expensive but if you do need to eat there is a McDonalds which charges normal prices.
Plenty of public toilets but they all charge around 10CK for admission. I would certainly recommend a visit to this town allowing yourself 2 or 3 hours simply to stroll.

The streets between this area and the town center - especially the parallel embankment promenades, Stara (Old) Louka and Nova(New) Louka - are lined with big-ticket shops and more fine facades from a bygone era of opulence. Stara Louka street is more classy, interesting and full of shops than Nova Louka regardless they are both located along the river banks. Karlovy Vary is beautiful town and Stara Louka is one of the its gem.
If you are walking from the central part of the city towards Stara Luka, this street ends with the magnificent Pupp Hotel, which you should definitely visit, probably you might have seen this hotel in the James Bond movie at the 2006 Royale Casino.

We love that area of Karlovy Vary for its fascinating architecture with the wonderful landscape in the background. The atmosphere of this place is especially calm and relaxing in the evening when there aren't so many people in the street and you can hear and watch the fast-moving river Tepla burble and ripple.
