I really love the place. The owners have made a great effort to keep the park up and running. They were very kind to us and being foreigners ourselves made them try their best to make ourselves feel more than welcomed. The glow worm cave is an amazing place. I really recommend this place

I went out of my way to visit this place as I had been before many years ago and wanted to see the whole thing again. When I got there I inquired about a tour, and mentioned that I especially wanted to see the glow worm caves. I was told that I wouldn't be able to do so for another... More

My sister suggested a visit as my children had not visited glow worm caves. We were not disappointed. Guides were very knowledgeable and the owls were amazing to see up so close. The glow worms were simply amazing, once our eyes adjusted to the light the guide led us thru the caves. Wear good walking shoes as it is steep... More

I have always wanted to go here and I was not disappointed. Sure there were some ordinary farm animals that frankly you can see in other places but there were some more interesting ones such as the deer. The guide was very knowledgeable and the animals came very close so you could see them easily. We went to see the... More

4 of us visited in February. Not sure if we were just unlucky but I thought it was very overpriced to look at a few owls in a barn essentially. We thought there would be many birds and varieties of owls to see, but there wasn't. I think the idea is great and the owners are very passionate, but other... More

Owlcatraz is so called because apart from many ordinary farm animals, this centre has some native birds; weka and bellbirds as well as the Ruru ('morepork' owl). But the reference to Alcatraz is the fact that they have the old Shannon jail on site. It was decommissioned in the 1960's with the threat of demolition so the Campbells bought it.... More

I had not seen so many owls during the daytime before. The place was several large barns with low ceilings and daylight shining through cracks between the boards. It was a wonderful way to display the birds.

Unlike a previous reviewer, we were not warned that the tour would be inappropriate for young children (we had a 19 month old and a 3 month old). So they happily took our full admission price even though we ended up not being allowed to see the owls at the end! The first part of the tour, we were shown... More

Great day trip! This place has so much more than just the owls. On our arrival we were met by Joey the cockatoo that jumped onto each of our shoulders in turn. The guides are excellent, very informative and fun. The forest walk is lovely and you get to interact with some lovely animals and birds. The owl house itself... More

We were driving by the entrance in our motorhome when my partner spotted the Owlcatraz sign and decided to turn in on a spur of the moment decision. So glad he did! This has been one of the main highlights of our two months (so far) on the road. Don and Ross were excellent guides and we learnt so much... More
