I had not seen so many owls during the daytime before. The place was several large barns with low ceilings and daylight shining through cracks between the boards. It was a wonderful way to display the birds.

Unlike a previous reviewer, we were not warned that the tour would be inappropriate for young children (we had a 19 month old and a 3 month old). So they happily took our full admission price even though we ended up not being allowed to see the owls at the end! The first part of the tour, we were shown... More

Great day trip! This place has so much more than just the owls. On our arrival we were met by Joey the cockatoo that jumped onto each of our shoulders in turn. The guides are excellent, very informative and fun. The forest walk is lovely and you get to interact with some lovely animals and birds. The owl house itself... More

We were driving by the entrance in our motorhome when my partner spotted the Owlcatraz sign and decided to turn in on a spur of the moment decision. So glad he did! This has been one of the main highlights of our two months (so far) on the road. Don and Ross were excellent guides and we learnt so much... More

We recently went to this place, because my niece was in NZ from the UK and simply loves most animals. The people at Owlcatraz were very helpful, open and keen to make sure we all had a good time. Our guide, who had 'worked' there for 18 years or so told us he had not worked a day while spending... More

A small group of us - 10 children and 5 adults visited Owlcatraz and were pleasantly surprised. Young children would enjoy it best and it was suitably geared for them. Lovely gardens and a large diverse selection of animals - both native and otherwise. Our guide Don was informative and lovely to talk to and his added anecdotes were amusing... More

My sister and I visited Owlcatraz today with our two older kids. It's a place we've talked about visiting for years, but somehow never got around to it. We're certainly glad we did today. Our main interest was seeing the owls, but there were plenty of other interesting birds and animals, and just strolling round the beautifully landscaped grounds was... More

Having driven past Owlcatraz for years (pre kids) we finally took the time to call in a few weeks ago. What an amazing place! The Morepork (native NZ owl) enclosure is only part of the attraction - although the chance to see these birds up close is certainly worth the admission price alone. There's a whole host of other birds... More

We stumbled in with low expectations but what a pleasant surprise. The enthusiasm of the staff is contagious and I was engrossed by the animals we saw. You could spend a good hour in the entrance room/shop with the charming white cockatoo! For $5 extra we were guided through their glow worm cave which is well worth it.

Went to see the owls, but there was a lot of other neat things to see. The kids enjoyed it and the time flew. Glow worms were amazing
