This place is good for two types of people. People who love photography and drivers crazy after the mountain roads. This place is breath taking. You can eat fast a traditional food you do some pictures and you can continue your journey, (I read some reviews that you have nothing to do.. You're on top of the highest mountain in... More

Yes, you must not miss this one if on a voyage on Transfagarasan! And many people go there only for this lake as you can have snow balls in July! you can find 1-2 restaurants near the lake and many stands with local products: cheese, fruit, fruit syrup etc.

of course, there are lots of stalls selling souvenirs and food - but you still can just go for a short or long hike and admire the landscape (since it's literally "on top", the view towards the north is just breath-taking); just don't expect to be alone, since this is one of the main stops on Transfagarasan

You have to make a stop at Balea lake, once you go on Transfagarasan! And if you have the time, I reccoment to have lunch/dinner over there. The traditional dishes are very good! Enjoy!

Bâlea lake it a beautiful creation of nature surrounded by the magnificient Făgăraş mountains. The lake itself is tranquil and nice, and you can hike in the area. We climbed up to a peak nearby (Şaua Caprei), and we found another beautiful lake called lake Capra. It's worth the strain, the view to both sides is utterly stunning.

To arrive at the lake you have to do the Transfagarasan Road, which is really exciting, or take the funicular, pure adrenaline stuff. Once arrived you can see the glacier lake, take a trip with the boat on the lake, visit the church, and also have lunch or dinner in the restaurant with the local food and products. The wind... The Balea Glacier Lake is accessed by the Transfagarasan High Road (National Road DN 7C) which you can take from Cartisoara, about 50 km away from Sibiu City. The road is open only from June to September due to snow hazards. It takes about one hour by car from Cartisoara to Balea Lake and you have the option to go... More

We went at the end of May, and discovered that the roads had not opened due to snow. There was no way of finding this out before planning your journey. Hence you were left with no option but to take the rather exorbitantly priced cable car up there and back. The ride it self was nice, however once you get... More
