We visited this place during winter. We drove to Balea Waterfall and took the cableway to Balea Lake. The views are great, even in winter. You can also visit the Hotel of ice, from december to march. We are looking forward to returning here during summer, following the Transfagarasan way.

This is probably the most famous glacier lake in the country because of the fact that is easy reachable by car following the Transfagarasan road.

Situated at the top of Fagaras Montains, Balea Lake along with Balea Cascade and Transfagarasan are the places to visit at least 1 time in your life. Balea - general name for all this attractions is the border between Muntenia (old name Valahia) and Transilvania - 2 Romanian kingdoms now united in the same country. The view is astonishing from... If you travel from Sibiu southbound to Bucharest via the Transfagarasan road, you will see this lake after the pass. Having seen a lots of lakes in BC, Canada, it is not that special. There is a restaurant beside the lake that you can get a cup of hot coffee. It was rainy that day so we enjoyed the warm... More

The place is just amazing, it's pure nature with whatever you want to see: lake, mountains, peaks, snow, fish. The location is on the highest point of Transfagarasan road, probably the most amazing road in Europe and the most dangerous one.

One of the most beautiful places of Fagaras Mountains. To get there you have to take the Transfagarasan road, which is equally amazing (92 km of twists and turns and 5 tunnels). It might be closed during winter time. At the top you'll find yourself surrounded by breathtaking views, perfect photo opportunities. Make sure you carry a jacket with you, you... More

Nearly drove right past Lake Balea while on the Transfagarasan drive. Actually, we did... Realised we missed it when we went through the tunnel and had to turn around and come back. It wasn't clear when we drove past the stalls and the parking area since you can't really see the lake from the road, it just appeared to be... More

I visited Balea lake with some Romanian friends on a day trip from Cluj. Best to leave early morning as the drive is a good 3-4 hours. The views as your start your climb are incredible and get even more breathtaking as you get closer. All along the route you will find traditional Romanian food stalls with a wide range... More

During the winter you have near by the curch on ice and also the ice hotel and the ice watterfall. In the summer might be overcrowded. The lake is not very big one dut the sorrowndings are great so be seen.
