It's a very nice place to visit. The landscapes are outstanding. The lake is located on Transfagarasan Road, you can get here by car or cable car. The cable car cost around 6 euros one way. It's a nice place to visit in the summer and winter. In the winter they build here the Ice Hotel.

Balea Lake is a must see if you are in the area. The road to Balea, called Transfagarasan is open only a few month a year, when it's not covered with snow. But there is a cable car that leads to Balea Lake when the road is closed and it cost around 5.5 eur one way. I visited Balea Lake... More

Spent an amazing night here - the staff couldn't have been friendlier, and the food was excellent. Was also impressed by the staff's English skills. We went well prepared with thermals, ski gear, hats and gloves- and as long as you follow the instructions on how to make your bed, you can have a cosy night! The scenery is stunning... More

We visited in mid week in late January and were the only people staying that night in the ice hotel. The hotel, chapel and bar are amazing and incredibly detailed. We had booked dinner in the ice bar which wasn't cheap but was a nice experience and the food was excellent. The lake cafe is pleasant but very smoky. Prices... More

This place is very interesting. The landscape is impressive. Unfortunately, it is quite hard to reach, mainly in the winter. However, it is worth the effort. You can reach the place by the Transfagarasan road from either Pitesti or Sibiu in the summer, but in the winter, you can only reach this destination by cable car.. (from Sibiu you go... More

Had a coffee in the hotel overlooking this place. Mid October, frost on the ground just above but toasty warm sitting in the sun, very relaxing.
