In the National trust so this was worth a visit. Good for a walk around and see some exhibits and a cup of tea. It is a modern castle and somehow with the name expected something a bit more mythical.

Whilst undergoing refurbishment as others have said, it is definatly worth a visit. Combine it with the local villages and there is a wonderful forge (although call foundry) nearby with working waterwheel used to drive tools and hammers. This castle is one of the castle looked after by National trust. it mean it is free if you are member of National trust. Please be noted that interior of castle is renovated however, you still can see the in the progress of renovation and I believe it is also great opportunity to see what is happening in the renovation... so its undergoing refurbishment which means its different, however the volunteers were excellent and explained the problems with the original construction and showed the huge cracks and water damage from previous problems and restorations. the buildings are excellent my children enjoyed a fantastic day out. be aware of the car journey roads are small. the actual grounds and castle are out standing a great day out

Castle Drogo was built for the founder of the earliest supermarket. Work started in 1911 and was completed in 1930. However although of stone it has not lasted the test of time and is being significantly rebuilt. However you can now see in many areas the bare bones without decoration.
