After visiting Chinchero, if you want a beautiful downhill hike, I recommend the walk from Chinchero to Urquillos. It is about 5 1/2 miles. You descend from 12,200 feet (3700 meters) to 9430 feet (2875 meters), so protect you knees. The canyon is peaceful and beautiful--lots of rushing water, colorful wildflowers, parrots flying overhead, and tranquil eucalyptus groves. We met... More

One day trip along the Hurubamba river and historical sites is a good spend of time. We visited Pisac, Hurubamba and Chinchero with a guided tour. It takes a day to go to these 3 places and stoll along the Inka ruins . The guided tour was worth, as we could learm more on the way. i would recommend it.

We hired a cab + driver for one day (9am to 6pm for 180 Soles for 2) and had him drive contrary to what the day-tours usually do: 1. Chinchero - had the compound to ourselves in the morning, spend around 1 hour; 2. Moraya - arrived just ahead of everyone else, spend around 1,5 hours; 3. Salineras - not... More

I know it isn't Machu Picchu, but this is another great trip to make while in the area. We made 3 different stops in the Sacred Valley and were able to walk around the ruins in all 3 spots. Highlight of the trip was going to a village (I know it was a little bit of a tourist trap--they had... More

Make sure you take a day trip on a bus from Cusco to experience all that this valley has to offer.stop in small beautiful towns along the way to buy some great local products and have lunch with a group to experience traditional Peruvian foods. But the highlight is the many Inca ruins you will visit that are just as amazing... The Moray is a series of circular depressions in the ground,,,,,theory is it may have been like a research area for the Inca to grow and test crops. Either way the site was very interesting and fairly easy to walk around and through. 1-2 hours is all that would be needed at this location, but it takes about 1 hour... More

Within this small area, we saw several examples of the sophistication of Incan technology. The salt mines are amazing. Terraced into a hillside, the pools allow the water from a salty spring to evaporate leaving behind a wide range of salts which are for sale. In Moray we saw the huge circular agricultural terraces. The Incans used them to test... More
