I guess the high point of this house is its wood carving, which is everywhere and very detailed. The archivist in me would say the collection of several thousands of artefacts, makes it the largest collection of any English Heritage property. Its owners made their money on South American Guano deposits - which was a messy industry in many ways,... More

From two life members of the National Trust who have visited an extensive range of NT properties. Tyntesfield has been on our list of properties to visit since the NT acquired the property. We finally made it this year and arranged an extra full day of my holiday as we were certain the visit would take a full day. We... More

Always so much going on at Tyntesfield, so check out to see what added extras may be happening the day you visit. The house is huge with great rooms and you get a real insight of the upstairs downstairs feel of the place. Gardens are lovely and the newly restored orangerie is looking fabulous plus a lovely walled garden and... More

A fascinating, picturesque house. I couldn’t wait to get inside. There were household items used by four generations of one family. It was if they had gone away and everything was waiting for their return. As I entered yet another beautiful room I thought I had found the best room in the house until I entered another. I left wanting... More

We love everything about this house and have been visiting since the National Trust purchased it some 13 years ago. Great to see what has been done every time we return. This time around the gardens were looking excellent including the walled garden and courtyards with the beautiful restored orangery. All in all a fantastic achievement that makes us proud... More

I had seen the TV programme, read the book and reviews and was really looking forward to this visit without the kids in tow. The place did not disappoint and whilst not as big as a place like Wentworthwoodhouse it made up for this with its architectural splendour - finer light oak interiors/ panelling you won't find and the 50,000... A unique property, full of interest. The guides were very helpful, the scones very tasty and the icecream was excellent! We particularly liked the formal planting outside the house. The view from the turret window looking down on the yellow and orange beds was stunning. Can't believe we haven't visited it before.

Tyntesfield is such a beautiful place to see and learn. You can spend you entire day and enjoy the estate. There is so much to explore both the house and the gardens. Each room have guides that are more than willing to give you a bit of the history of the Gibb's family. The guides are very nice and entertaining.... More
