Worth the 20 min trek into the bush- builds the excitement! John was very relaxed & casual- ozzie bloke to match the mood of the evening. No bells & whistles here like city observatories, but everyone gets a go to look into several telescopes & watch some short DVD's on a big screen in Johns shed with some interesting artefacts.... Mudgee Observatory is a must-see. The owner is friendly and helpful. The place is really special and John's love for astronomy is inspiring.

Lovely hosts. Night sky objects such as Saturn and star clusters, binary stars visible through telescopes. Very educational and entertaining.

Great trip to Mudgee observatory - John is brilliant, explaining the stars in ways kids can understand and really looking after our youngest (aged 5). Our eldest (aged 8) summed it up brilliantly on seeing Jupiter for the first time: "this is so cool". And all for $25 for a family of four.

The price is low ($10), you'll get to see some kinds of stars on 3 different telescopes, it takes 10 minutes max. Then they show you videos...it is actually much more nicer to watch the stars by yourself, they are so beautiful and numerous. That is already impressive, no need to go to the Observatory

I'm sure glad my son (a Mudgee resident) was driving last night! The observatory is well worth the 20 minute drive out of Mudgee high up into the hills along a winding track with plenty of wildlife to keep you alert! We spent a fascinating couple of hours being shown the wonders of the night sky. John was a fantastic... More

A lovely evening with a knowledgable guide to the stars. Being a closet geek, I had an amazing time while my friend, who was a local and had no idea it was there, also had a great time and learned a lot.
